• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

DESS error may be due to all the aftermarket electronic add-ons? Just throwing it out there!

2014 Spyder RTL… recently started getting the DESS error no start condition. But it only seemed to happen after the first initial start of the day. Would start great in the morning but after that, error! I started thinking, maybe it’s because of all the aftermarket electronic shit I’ve added (LEDs, 2400 watt amp, aftermarket GPS, a couple of USB charging ports, roar pedal) so I decided to just do a reset (disconnected battery for a few minutes) and so far no more error. I also removed my key from an aftermarket holder just in case it was interference causing the error. 800 miles later, still starts with no error.
I’m not saying I fixed my issue permanently (yet) just throwing it out there for anyone experiencing that error before they trailer their machine to the stealership!

There are a few threads on this subject if you're interested in reading, do a search! Happy reading! If it's the last time you see this error, you'll be lucky!

After previously reading through all the DESS threads here regarding DESS... seeing the dreaded DESS appearing ONCE is enough to make you concerned, IMO.
I had the DESS show its ugly self a couple times. That was 2 too many times for me. I had hooked up with another Spyder member here and had my DESS disabled, like many others who have done here. Best thing I could have ever done for peace of mind and not being DESS stranded.

Glad that your DESS hasn't shown its ugly face since. But beware, if it ever does again, I would definitely be seeking someone to disable it. JMO, of course.

Turned mine off on my 2014... don't want to be 1000+ miles from home and have that error staring at me, requiring a trailer ride to God knows where a competent Spyder dealer might be from me. It is worth the peace of mind to me not to have to chance it with that known issue. And... it is nice have some inexpensive cut keys that will run the bike, including one tucked in my wallet ... just in case.

"Peace of mind", my sentinments exactly.

Having that DESS issue makes you not want to travel too far from home for fear of being stranded ANYWHERE. I also made it a point to purchase a Jump Pak, for that just in case moment the battery suddenly decides not to crank . A little extra security assurance.

Good Evening Cloak,

I started a Thread on Aug. 13, 2015 about this - The name of the thread is: DESS KEY CODE AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

Please read Post # 1,100 on page 55 (last post) it is posted by Peter Aawen, he is a moderator on this site. That thread is Closed per Peter Aawen; also, that thread has a lot of very useful information about the DESS Error.
