I do not believe disabling the DESS makes the bike any easier to steal.
With or without DESS, a thief either needs a key or a roll back wrecker to steal the bike.
Either with or without DESS, a thief can get the bike running once in their posession by making a key and software access.
By BRP making the software access to the security module accessible without the coded key in place, they essentially made the system useless by design.
This is NOT how the security on coded keys in cars works. The 2013 and older bikes were actually MORE secure as a result of this design decision.
