• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. DESS Error Code STRIKES

DESS ISSUES

Hi Elembytes,
You can send us your VIN and preferred servicing dealer at [email protected] and we can work with the dealer to get this sorted out for you. We can also check if there are any pending recalls or service bulletins to perform on your vehicle.
Thanks,
Steve
. Steve I personally want to say Thanks for getting back IN on this issue ............Please ignore the Naysayers who have no comprehension of the word " EMPATHY " ...... I know BRP is working on this issue, it's unfortunate sharing information is not something that is possible for a lot of valid reasons......................Mike :thumbup::thumbup:

Hasn't the 4916 module been problem free? That would indicate they have fixed it. Also, it's been mostly an early failure issue hasn't it, as in most all, if not all, have occurred within the first 2 or 3 thousand miles. I've gone 7000 miles and never had a DESS error, except when I intentionally created one.
My first dess module was replaced @ 6,994 miles on Jul 14,2015 and the 2nd dess module replaced @ 8,740 miles. It will be a year in Aug. since I have not had the dess error show up.

Also, I do park under telephone wires, and carry my cell phone in the trunk.

Ask mike( Blueknight911) about the 710004916 dess module. That he has in spyder. Deanna

Steve, I sent you an email with my VIN and dealer preference information in regards to my DESS error for my key. Thanks.

I wonder , --------> computer stuff , they have too program the key , { some times at the work place , we down load programs too various machines with upstart programs that inter face with logic type program that tell things too run, move and so-on } so I wonder if all one needs too do is just re-write over the programed key , { just run program too re-install the original codes for the key , I guess like java , or other soft wear, that just over lays older with newer edition material ... some times computers burp so too speak and could be easy as that } just a thought... glad too see B R P log in also pretty cool guys

Send a pm to Mike( Blueknight911) he has the 4916 which is the newest/and current part #. Ask him. Deanna

Doesn't work with my 2014 RTS. I've tried it several times.
Try this: turn on/off immediately DO NOT LET THE SYSTEM SHUT DOWN for 4/5 cycles. Hope that helps. I have posted the above info on my "Thread DESS KEY CODE AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. It is a long thread. Deanna

The problem is not that the DESS is forgetting the key code, its that its not READING the key code from the key when it needs to and within the programmed period of time (short). Relearning the same key you already have is not going to help. Also its not the key that is usually bad. Can be but they either work or don't and seldom fail.

So my 2014 Spyder RT went to the shop for second time for DESS code so does anyone have a real answer for this problem

I started a thread " DESS KEY CODE AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" ( it is a long thread 26 pages and counting) and it has a lot of information about the D.E.S.S.

I have a 2014RTS SE6 and I have had the D.E.S.S. module replaced twice( July 14, 2015, & Aug. 28th, 2015 )and the ignition switch( Aug. 28th, 2015) replaced once.

Also it has been a 1 year and 2 months since I have the D.E.S.S error. Deanna

What are the consequences of turning it off as far as BRP is concerned

Hello SpyderLovers:

I am adding my frustration to the pool of 2015 RTL Spyders experiencing a DESS Key Code ERROR!

That's right. I got to my barn today and go to start the bike up to move it so we can get rid of some old hay and it won't start at all. Look down at the instrument cluster and see the orange message DESS KEY CODE ERROR! Are you kidding me? This new bike only has 800 miles on it. Good Grief! So...I pull the key out and wait until the digital display turns off. Re-insert the key wait for it's normal routine, pressed MODE and it fired up. Got this message two other times.

Now I have read most of your postings and the "Theory" of KEY FOBS in pockets at the time of the DESS ERROR. I got news for everyone, I only own 1 vehicle with an electronic remote key function- and I don't carry it on me unless I am driving that car. SO- NO reason for the DESS KEY CODE ERROR!

So...any thoughts? I never had to walk away from the bike and come back. I stayed sitting on the bike, removed the key, waited for the display to shut off and simply tried it again and it worked EACH TIME!

Maybe BRP reading all these posts might just come across an answer for us. This NEVER happened on our 2012 RTS- SE5 Spyder.

Stay cool. KS is sitting at 112 Heat index today! OUCH!
Hi,

I had the same problem. I tighten my battery cables... that were loose. End of the problem. Hope this works for you.

Joe

WELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL

Hi,

Joe
Joe, I'm sorry to inform you " end of problem " ........No .... The loose cables had nothing to do with the DESS issue ...... It was strictly a co-incidence ..... Once the DESS issue occurs ... it will get worse, please believe me on this ...... Go to your dealer and MAKE check it with BUDS, it WILL be in the computer..... I they BS you and say they can't find it :banghead::banghead::banghead: .....Have them contact BRP and ask BRP how to find it ..... Nothing in the Computer dis-appears ......EVER ....... Mike

BRP & DESS

What are the consequences of turning it off as far as BRP is concerned

The DESS module is an Anti-theft device .... If you have it dis-abled it would be easier to steal the bike .... However the thief would have No idea if it was dis-abled so He/She/It would do what is normally done to steal any other Spyder :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: ......... IMO the DESS module doesn't have any effect on any of the other systems ( if I'm wrong could the smarter people please correct this statement ). So I don't think there would be any consequences ( ie warranty ) from BRP....... If I were closer to JC Thorne I would ask Him to dis-able mine .......... Mike

Its an available option in the software THEY pay to develop and is made available to dealer and aftermarket technicians. Its not an aftermarket modification. Once it's off, there is no further concern of DESS warranty as it will no longer fail.
