Dealers Oil Changes

I feel that most dealers charge top rate ($70.00 to $100.00+ Per. Hr.) and make 20 to 30% on the oil & filters some make more. My 600 mile service on my 2011 RS-S SE5, the oil and filters $86.71 and took 2 hours laber $140.00. It's IMHO way to much $$$$ for an easy service and they screwed that up.

That's why they call them "STEALERSHIPS"! Nobody touches my machines but me! Nobody! I do everything myself except changing a tire off and on a rim (yes, the rear wheel can be removed super easy as well as the belt alignment and belt tension can be performed by any idiot with a 10$ kricket guage) and updates/programming of the ECU. About a month ago I installed a new starboard side engine in our Seadoo Speedster. Had the old one out in under 30 minutes. If I can do it, anyone can as anyone who knows me realizes that I am NOT the sharpest tack in the box!;)

Not defending the Dealerships that screw up, They should not be in business.
That said, Dealers have over head $ that driveway mechanics don't have.!!

I had my 2008 in for oil change and coolant flush. The total was $500! So I checked the charges and they charged me $119 for the oil filter, I asked them if that is the last oil filter I will ever need? The apologized and adjusted the fees and gave me a gift certificate. So it ended up around $ 280. You have to watch these guys and speak you voice

My dealer(or not) charged me $448.00 for my 600 mile service way too much I now change my on oil 30min top less than $100.00 amnsoil 10w-40w.

The going rate seems to be right around $300. My dealer charges $110 per hour shop rate.
Upkeep on the Spyder, if you have to go to the dealer everytime, is another of my beefs with the machine. Compared to a lot of cars, or other motorcycles, the :spyder2: is right up there at the top for being expensive to maintain.

last week I had the oil and filters changed in my RT. The dealer installed the new and improved parts, adjusted my belt tension, and cleared some error codes...
All for a mere $116.63

Just a little to far for me to drive--and then I would be ready for another oil change when I got home. :roflblack:

I almost fell over when I saw Robert's Powersports labor rate....$50 per hour...and yes...that's $50 and thier mechanics are exceptional and well trained...Go figure....

Mike,

I don't know what the issue is with the dealer & don't know who the dealer is.

Your post subject is 'Dealers Oil Change' & you complained about the price for the 600 miles service & two hours labor. You do realize that the 600 miles service is far more than just an engine oil & filter change, right? They also inspect, adjust, clean, lube, replace or service the following:

  • Oil Tank Strainer
  • Transmission Oil Filter
  • Engine Coolant
  • Fault Codes
  • Spark Plugs
  • Drive Belt
  • Front Suspension Arms
  • Parking Brake
  • Storage Compartment Latches, Key Barrels & Hinges

I know the spark plugs are a lot of work & they very likely had to remove the frunk to lube the front suspension.

See you at the Georgia Spyder Riders potluck @ Mountain MotorSports in Conyers @ 11:00 this Saturday!

Wow--- some of these prices are NUTS... and the 600 mile service is a joke. I doubt most dealers are bothering to do more than the oil change and lube the front..... maybe check the belt tension. Checking the plugs ??? I doubt they do it... unless you're having a problem... why bother?

Hooking up to BUDS and applying any updates has always been free at any dealer I've been to... so that really shouldn't count.

Do your own service whenever possible....... it's not that hard and will give you a great sense of accomplishment... not to mention YOU will know things were done correctly.....

Ok lets see:

The oil change, strainer, lube suspension arms, coolant and filters filter 25 mins.

Compartment latches & fault codes 03 mins.

Parking brake & drive belt 10 mins

Spark plugs 20 mins.

That's 58 mins and 2 mins. to move my Spyder RS-S SE5 in and out of the shop. That's one hour of labor and they used barrel oil and how much do you think they pay to oil changing guy per hr. The items above is the time it took me to do the work.

Great Deal! Only problem is by the time I got there and back I'd need another change.

Just saying!!!

I always ask first what it's going to cost.. no matter what I am having done. .. if I don't ask. And I feel I got screwed shame on me.. Therefore I always ask what anything is going to cost before I do it. I just hate that feeling of being screwed without being kissed first!!!!:roflblack:

charge for oil change & annual service

I just checked with our dealer in Medford, OR and was told they charge for an oil change (parts, labor & disposal fee) is $170.
The price for the annual service (including 27 point check) is $320 and include an oil change.

Check out Artufun's video on how to do a oil change, order some filters, o rings and crushwashers along with some Amsoil from Bajaron (A sponsor here) and do it yourself...will save tons of money that you can spend on other farkles.
