• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. We are officially registered for the DW3WR . This will be after we climb Pikes Peak on the Spyder. Looking for a good traveling year in 2021.

Happy New Year to the Spyderlovers.com community

Climbing Pikes Peak was one of the highlights of my 2019 CO trip as we were able to ride all the way to the top while construction of the new visitor's center obstructed parking and most cagers had to ride the shuttle to the top. Going down was almost as much fun as ascending. While you're in that neck of the woods you should ride to the top of Mount Evans Scenic Highway, the highest paved road in North America.

my spyder climbed pikes peak, so yours should be able to do it too!!:doorag::2thumbs:

then it went over to and climbed the highest paved road in USA, all in 2017

I live in Pahrump Nv and am, at this point, thinking of going. I have traveled in cars and RV's to that area, but never 2 or 3 wheels. I know 80 can be windy. What routes do you guys ride?

Thanks, Bob

Just an FYI. Nemo rd. Which was closed during last years rally (and Sturgis) due to a bridge behind out, is back open. A nice ride to take is Vanocker Canyon from Sturgis to Nemo, then down Nemo rd to the Norris pk road cut across to Johnson’s Siding. Also Sheridan Rd from Rapid City to Hwy 385 is under reconstruction, but at least is paved for now.

Yes Lou it is. Even though I'm working hard at the remodel of the house. I don't hire out much. This time I'm framing, electrical, proper soundproofing insulation, hang 4 doors ( 2 o/s , 2 i/s) drywall, tape& texture, masking, paint, trim ( inside and out). At least there was no plumbing this time.
Retired-------- well kinda.

WE take 80 to somewhere near Elko and then head north to Boise to visit Son -n Law. Then any roads that take us to the rally. BUT this year we are climbing Pikes Peak before the rally.

I did D3WR in '18 and, FWIW, were I in your boots I would use Butler Motorcycle Maps and pick the brains of SL members to create to/from routes that minimize the amount of super slab riding you have to do. IMO, it's worth the extra days & expense to travel backroads. If you happen to belong to AAA you can have them create TripTik routes and tell them you do not want to travel interstates.

I ride I 80 from Evenston to Cheyenne. Here I pick up the Cheyenne to Deadwood 1886 stage route to Deadwood. Take I 25 out of Cheyenne to Guernsey then over to Lingle, then North on US 85 all the way to Deadwood. Take your time and enjoy the sights. I have never found I 80 to be too windy but have heard it can be. There are more scenic routes to Cheyenne, but I am usually in more of a hurry. If you want slower take US 40 to FT Collins then pick up I 25 to Cheyenne.
Haydration is important and doubly so on this ride. It is very hot here in the summer,so be sure to drink lots of water.

Lou I don't know what Pete is doing these days, I haven't heard from him in weeks. I think they are laying pretty low. Be fun to meet up after you do Pike's Peak.

Thanks for the response(s). Yes, it appears there is a bunch of different ways to get from point A to point B, just a matter of riding preference. It's approx 1100 miles for me. At the rate my butt gets tired, I should probably start 3 weeks to get there on time.

Did Pikes Peak in August 2020. It was awesome and a piece of cake. A few BMW’s and a couple of Honda 3 wheelers overheated and a Harley blew a transmission on the way up. Wanted to ryde up Mount Evans, but it was closed due to the virus. The campground at the base was literally packed with campers of all kinds. But, you can’t ryde up a mountain. Go figure.
