Waiting for our weekend update!

Hey Dave! We are all waiting for our weekend update! Whooo - whooo!:coffee: Time to wake up and tell us about your adventures :yes:

A little change of routine

Hey Dave! We are all waiting for our weekend update! Whooo - whooo!:coffee: Time to wake up and tell us about your adventures :yes:
Well, we're on break from work right now. Being an auto plant, we usually shut down the 1st 2 weeks of July for retooling, so we have no choice when vacation is, but sales are strong this year & most the plant including my department are only down for the 1st week, so Teddy & I are out of our normal routine & instead of me working, im babysitting my best friends 10yo daughter, cause he works in skilled trades and is working this week. Gives us some quality time to catch up with the lil girl. She's getting so big so fast, growing like a weed.

are you going to finish Spyderfest adventure or is that old news now... :doorag:
We'll start catching up on our SpyderFest story here shortly, I haven't forgotten:rolleyes:

Think the honeymoon maybe over.... Have I lost that loving feeling?

It's been almost a week now since last we rode Teds Red Sled  and I'm sad to admit, I'm actually okay with it :( but I'm not sure exactly what that means:dontknow: I'm assuming it means my addiction has been broken  but the reality of it still persists, in the back of my mind, that desire ........ that longing ........ to get back out there and feel the wind on our faces, the sun on our skin, the sights, the smells .... we miss that:(

I'm thinking this is just a phase, being gun-shy about ryding with Teddy until I'm once again confident that once we get his ryding compartment area more safely set-up for his needs & comfort, get the bugs worked out from the brake & engine fault codes and more importantly get his garage back in working order to get all of the above done, I think this phase will pass us by. I pray this phase will pass us by

After rushing to get everything done for the past 2 trips, I've got Teds garage in a mess where I can't find anything & trying to do anything in there is a royal PITA:opps: My own fault, I know ..... that whole thing about putting something back when you're done working with it :lecturef_smilie: I'm learning the hard way  I fealt really bad, cause Dax needed to borrow the rear bearing puller that doc had designed and sent us when we changed our rear bearings over the winter, but I've still not been able to locate it. No shop around could help him cause they were too busy & he was moving in 2 days & needed to finish his rear set-up before the move, if he could. I've got the garage tore apart right now, can't even fit the Sled inside, so it has been in our outside parking spot until I get the garage sorted back out. At least I've got this week free to work on it all, besides babysitting of course.

My general rule is if I don't find a tool where I first looked, when I do find it I put it in the spot I first looked for it.

If you get your garage cleaned out and have spare time left mine is stacked to the rafters with stuff...

I was showing my daughter Ted,and she thinks he's adorable!...We have to ask though,is that his real hair and fuzzy tail dyed red?..Or has he got hair extensions?...Does he go to Great Clips too?...So glad he is getting back to normal..We saw you and him in passing in Maggie Valley, and we had the feeling we saw someone famous!

OK, our break of routine is over, so we're back .......... well, not totally

Yup, its his real hair, no extensions for Teddy :doorag: He doesn't go to GreatClips, I've learned over the years how to do everything myself when it comes to taking care of The Tedsters coat, guess I'm like his Personal Stylist in a way :joke::roflblack:

Ok, so here's the story of how Teddy's coat came to be the way it is now :doorag:

Back in May of 2010 we got our 1st Spyder RT-S when they 1st came to market. The byke was bought for Teddy, seriously, no joking about it, we spent 6 hours in the showroom trying to figure out the best way to make it work for him and him being safe going about it. He took right to it, no training really involved. Mind you now, this was our 1st motorized byke of any sort EVER, so we had no clue what we were doing at first & with the RT just coming to market, we had no-one really to learn from, so we learnt as we went.

I literally took one of his doggy beds, put a hole in the bottom of it, ran a strap from under the rear of the seat, up thru the hole at the back of the seat, put the tether thru the hole in the bottom of his doggy bed, and attached the tether to his chest harness and away we went.

Oh yeah, his vet said he also had to wear doggles, cause the constant air pressure against a dogs eyes on the back of a byke can cause premature glaucoma  which I had no clue:dontknow: but we've ran everything thru his personal Vet before doing anything ;) & we love her as much as she loves Teddy

Anyways, after our first ryde, Teddy being a Pomeranian with about 3 inch long hair, it was a rats nest when I went to brush him out once we got home and it became a struggle to keep him properly groomed. I mean, I was pulling out his hair with the brush cause it was so tangled :cus::lecturef_smilie: He didn't like it and I didn't like hurting him, and it spoiled the enjoyment of having the Spyder  it was suppose to be fun for both of us, and this was just painful nojoke

So I talked with his Vet about what could be done, and she was straight up and honest with us, told me she could recommend a couple of conditioners to try, but in the end, we'd most probably just be throwing our money away, cause little would help the issue with a long haired dog on the back of an open byke doing 80 down the expressway :dontknow: so that's when she made the suggestion, "Well, you know Poms have a double coat, right? You could shave his top coat and he'd be just fine with his bottom coat as long as you keep him out of the direct sun-light and keep him from getting chilled. Probably your best bet if you intend to continue ryding on a daily basis, and just let it grow out in the winter & it shouldn't be a problem as long as you keep a coat on the little guy.;)" I love his VET :firstplace:

So I went about buying a set of clippers and watched a few YouTube videos and thank god I learned quickly, cause those first few trims were ........ ummmm......... no comment :helpsmilie: By our 3rd session tho, I had it down pretty well, and he looked good, tho most ppl were now confusing him with a Chi  which he is nothing like :lecturef_smilie: But with Teddy's loving & passive personality, he's even been beaten up by 3 of our neighborhood cats while out on walks :helpsmilie:

So my buddy mentions to me
"Dude, he's a byker dog now, don't you think he should look the part?"
"Huh, what do you mean?"
"You should make him look like the byker dog that he is now."
"How the h*ll would I go about doing that?"
"Well, you've learned to shave him yourself, so why don't you give him a Mow-Hawk, like you see a lot of punk-rockers and bykers have."
"I don't know how to do that."
"Dude, its easy, just next time you go to shave him, just don't shave that top strip right down the center of his head........ instant Mow-Hawk."

So I gave in to peer pressure and gave a try and like learning anything, there was a slight learning curve to it, but after a couple of trials I learned the right amount to leave and thought it looked pretty good. Only problem was, being all black, and him having tall black ears, it all blended together and you couldn't really tell the Mow-hawk was even there, unless you were on top of him and looking for it. So that's when my buddy made another suggestion of.......

"Dude, nice try with the Mow-Hawk, too bad you can't really see it tho."
"Yeah, nothing I can do about that tho."
"Sure there is, you can color it so it stands out. I mean, he's a byker-dog right? Shouldn't he be look'n the part?"

That damn peer-pressure, I tell ya :lecturef_smilie: So I go talking with Teddy's Vet about it, and she wasn't keen about the idea at all and explained the issues with bleaching a dogs coat, not being the same hair as a humans and the potential skin problems it could cause. She told me to research it more, and if I could come up with a way to go about it without having to first bleach his hair, then it shouldn't be much of an issue.

So we walked in to our local Sally Beauty Supply store, with Teddy in my arms, and we approached the lady at the counter and I asked her,
"Excuse me, how would I go about coloring his Mow-Hawk?"
:shocked:The lady, being a middle aged country lady, just stared at me like I was a martian with two heads  and finally commented, "But Sir...................... Thats a dog." in a very country accent and I couldn't help but to laugh at her comment.

TBC...................... work work work ................... & its a Monday :coffee::chill:

How Teddy came to be .................. "Teddy"

"I know its a dog, but he's got hair like you have hair, and you color your hair." I said to the country lady,
and again, with her heavy country accent she said, " But its a DOG!" in astonishment that I was even asking her the question :lecturef_smilie:

Loosing a bit of my friendliness:banghead: I just blankly looked her in the eye and said,
"No Sh*t! I know its a dog:mad:" with a half-hearted laugh to not hurt the lady's feelings:lecturef_smilie:

Getting frustrated :helpsmilie: I decided to go about my query in a different way, as the aproach I had taken was getting me nowhere, so I grabbed ahold of the longer hairs of my goatee and asked, "OK, what if I wanted to color this, how would I go about that?" "Oh, that's easy, you just take a packet of this and mix it with a bottle of this and put it on for about 30 minutes, then wash it out." she replied. "Thanks, that's all I needed to know. I'll take those and that'll be it." :chill: glad to be done with my lesson on how to color hair  Tho I didn't know at this time, she had only given me the information and products to bleach a persons hair, not to color it a different color than white

The lady really was really smitten with Teddy, and asked if she could take some pics of him for her kids to see, cause she had never seen a dog with a Mow-Hawk before & knew her kids hadn't either & they'd get a real kick out of it and Teddy kindly posed for some pics for her. We got to talking more about why he had a Mow-Hawk in the 1st place and I explained how he rydes on a bright red Spyder Motorcycle & that's why we wanted to color his Mow-Hawk bright Red to match HIS byke and she couldn't believe it so I told her that once we got finished, and we got set to go on the byke, I'd drive up on the sidewalk in front of the store so she could see for herself. We did, and you'd thought the lady was going to have a heart attack at what she was seeing, causing Teddy was standing in his seat and posing just like a little Rock-Star, and I think she then understood that just maybe, I wasn't as crazy as she had originally thought ....... or maybe not - :dontknow::roflblack::roflblack:

Anyways, back home we went and I follow the directions on the packages and WHA LHAAA, Teddy ends up with a somewhat creamsicle (off orange) looking Mow-Hawk which I didn't like the look of at all. But hey, at least now it stood out and you could see it :opps::rolleyes: Tho it didn't match his Viper Red Spyder at all & I agree, I deserved a few lashes for that :lecturef_smilie: but hey, I was learn'n

Anyways, I didn't know then, that if you bleach black hair, it will lighten it but also take on the original under-tones of the color-who knew- I didn't have a clue, but that's why Teddy's hair Mow-Hawk became kind of an off orange, cause the normal color coat for Poms is a bronze, almost like a fox, and he carries those under-tones and they became evident once the black hair was bleached  Live and learn Live and Learn  To make matters worse, this was the same time period that we finished Teddy's classes for getting certified to be an Emotional Support & Therapy Dog and he had to get his picture taken for his ID tags, forever frozen in time with a cream-sicle Mow-Hawk:opps: I deserved more lashes for that :lecturef_smilie:

I wasn't happy with the color & swore to never do that again :lecturef_smilie: then about 3 weeks pass and I get a phone call from the manager of the Sally Beauty supply store:dontknow: She asks if I'm the guy that has the cute little black dog with a Mow-Hawk that rydes on a bright red motorcycle to which I confirm. She then continues to explain how her sales associate that helped us that day had shown her pictures of Teddy on the Spyder when we pulled up to the front of the store and he was standing so proudly on the back seat and posing for pics and that she just thought it was the cutest thing she had ever seen. She then asks, didn't you want to color his Mow-Hawk bright red to match the byke? To which I confirm, but said I wasn't happy with how what we did turned out and decided never to do it again. She then takes on a very excited tone and begins to explain, "You don't have to ever bleach his hair again hunny. I did a little research and found this product that is bright red in color and that is specifically made for black hair, you'll never have to bleach his hair again. I ordered a tube and have it here for you if you'd like to give it a try, I really think it would work well and I've just gotta see it for myself if you use it."

"Wow, ummmmmm ok, thanks." This was out of the blue, so I was a little shocked, but thankful that she took it upon herself to research it for us and to order us a tube, so we stopped by and I got a few tips from her about doing Teddy's Mow-Hawk and well............. as they say, the rest is history.

The special formula red-cream worked like a charm, no pre-bleaching required. I ran it by Teddy's vet, and she did a thorough check, no hair or scalp burning, and Teddy doesn't mind getting it done, so she even gave her check of approval and so now Teddy goes to his stylist (me:rolleyes:) and gets a trim & color about every 6 weeks depending on the time of year and the Events that he's attending :doorag: Sport'n his Viper Red :doorag:Mow-Hawk and making ppl smile where ever the lil star goes :ohyea:

I tell ya, if someone would've told me back in 2010 that buying a Spyder would require me to learn how to cut, color & style a dogs hair and Mow-Hawk  I would have thought YOU were the CRAZY one :yikes: and look at me today :roflblack:

True Story :2thumbs:

:agree:

when Dave & Teddy first arrived at the hotel room at Spyderfest, I think I spent the first 15 minutes looking at Teddy and taking pictures of Teddy while talking to Dave.... I just couldnt take my eyes off him

and then, because of the rain, I got to spend a lot of time with both of them and really enjoyed becoming part of the Excellent Adventure

SpyderFest2013 The NEW Adventure-Chap 22-Thursday-Vendor Villiage ...Continued again

I'm going to try and finish our SpyderFest2013 story before going on to the Owners Event adventure that was just recently completed. Bare with me, while I go back and figure out where exactly it is that we left off, as it seems to be a few pages back now. Wow, this thing is really turning into a book  if I could only concentrate long enough and have enough free time to actually finish a chapter, we'd get there alot quicker, but I guess, as they say, life isn't perfect  but we'll get there. Its all about the journy anyways, not the ending ;)

SpyderFest2013 The NEW Adventure-Chap 22-Thursday-Vendor Villiage ..Continued again+

Ahh yes, at the Vendor Villiage, the sun was scorching and shining brightly high in the sky compared to the previous days & unbeknownst to us at the time, the days to come. As Teddy & I walked around the parking lot that the vendor villiage was set up in, we'd get pulled in one direction or another, this way that way, go here go there, and Teddy would schmooze and pose for pics, do tricks & Hi5's for treats and we got to meet so many different ppl, many of whom were already fans of Teddy from knowing the lil guy from right here on SpyderLovers, but surprisingly, he made many new fans that had never seen him before cause they had never heard of this site. Any that we met that were unaware, I'd be sure to point out to them how great this site is, full of wonderful ppl ready and willing to opening share there knowledge and experieneces with any whom seek it.

But after a while, this started to wear on both Teddy and I, cause we hadn't eaten yet, and it was close to 4 or 5 in the afternoon by this time, and I personally was starting to get a headache from lack of food. Almost like I wrang a bell for room service, one of Teddy's fans that was part of the MoGang and were working there at the Villiage came up to us, chatted and schmoozed with Teddy & I for a few and then told us that the MoGang had gone and gotten some McDonalds for the working group and that there were plenty of extras over under the MoGang Tent, and that we should go and help ourselves (since Teddy was an honorary MoGang Member) if we were so inclined. WOW, perfect timing, thanks alot and we made our way over to the MoGang Tent.

Time for a bit of a backstory of how Teddy & I became honorary members of the MoGang:
Teddy (& I) became honorary members of the MoGang, even tho we don't live anywhere near MO, when we 1st rode our 2010 Black RT-S Spyder from H*ll from our home here in Northern Kentucky all the way to CowTown USA in Cuba MO to meet Len for the very 1st time and trade our Spyder from H*ll for Len's very 1st SpyderFest Eddition RT-S that he made, way back in April of 2011. After making the ardjious trip with many Limp Modes and having to stop on the side of the road numerous times to fix one thing or another with the machine, we continued straight thru to Cowtown. Once there, Len took our 2010 Spyder from H*ll back for the shop to check all the issues with it, and told us it would be a bit before our new 2011 would be finished for us to take home, so Len told Teddy and I to hop in his truck and he'd take us on a little tour of Cuba and we'd get to meet many members of the MoGang, as they were prepairing for the fast aproaching 2011 SpyderFest. Well, after a little sight seeing, we stopped by the Wagon Wheel Inn, where the BonFire would be held at the opening cerimonies, and once we arrived, Teddy & I were promptly put to work, helping offload much of the firewood used for the bonfire:yikes: Was really the last thing I expected  especially after that long and unnerving trip, not even knowing for sure if we were going to make it to CowTown or not :dontknow: but I was happy to help & Teddy was more than happy to Supervise all of us  After that, we stopped by a local drivethru for some food and then headed back to CowTown, cleaned up a bit and had dinner and got to meet many of those that helped in one way or another to make SpyderFest the GREAT EVENT that it is. It takes so many ppl, in front and behind the scenes to put such an event on, and the MoGang really does work hard to do such a fantastic job & Teddy & I are proud to be honorary members of such a wonderful gang of ppl :firstplace::bowdown:

TBC ...................... work work work

SpyderFest2013 The NEW Adventure-Chap 23-Thursday-Vendor Villiage=Under the Tent

So we started making our way over to the MoGang Tent, but as usual, got stopped many times along the way. One stop we made on our own however, cause Teddy & I kept hearing these high pitched little sqeaks, almost like from one of those little battery powered toy dogs that many of us had as a kid, where it would squeak and then do a back-flip jump and just make you smile. We found the living versions of said little toy dog, but they were cute little tiny tea-cup Chi's, seriously just larger than an average mans fist in size. Teddy looked like a giant compared to them, and he only weighed around 10 pounds at this time, so I could only guess they were around 2 or 3 pounds at most. So cute and so little, but as with most Chi's they had the BIG DOG Syndrome that I'm SO thankful that Teddy doesn't possess, or I should say, one of them did and the other was just very shy. But the one, it was so cute, cause its mouth wasn't big enough to really do any harm shy of a paper cut, but he still acted like he was Doberman out for the kill. He didn't take to kindly to Teddy sniff'n around his area one bit, and after a couple of tries of getting them to be ok with each other, we finally just gave up and went on our way to the tent.

Once we got to the tent, which was mostly empty of ppl, we saw a few of the MoGang wearing their Bright colored shirts and then saw the McDonalds bags sitting on the table and made our way there. Once we set down, Teddy could smell the French Fries and he was just about to go bonkers for some grub, but to keep his training strong, whenever he gets food that's off his regular diet, he has to 'work' for it by performing commands, or as most ppl see it, by doing his little tricks of Hi5's, Shake, Sit, Lay, Spin etc..... Its kind of funny, cause I've been admonished by others for this, cause they think I'm being cruel and just teasing the little guy, but in reality, its not teasing at all, its reinforcing his training. If he got treats for doing nothing, then what's his incentive for doing what he's been asked/trained to do? Some ppl just don't understand this tho  Anyways, we sit down, and I grab a couple of Fries from the bag and ask him if he wants one and as if on que, he starts jumping like a bouncy-ball and then realizes that's going to get him no-where, so he then sits and stares at the frie in my hand, patiently awaiting my next command. If I wait to long however, the water-works start, and you'd think Teddy had a built in faucet, cause slowly, out of one corner or the other of his muzzle, a steady little stream of drool will eventually start to stream down to the ground below, in anticipation of the treat he's about to receive. Once this begins, we start to have our own little show for the small group that has surrounded around us under the tent, many with their camera phones jocky'n for position for the best pic of the little guy performing his little tricks for treats. Ppl start asking questions and I start explaining all about Teddy, what he does, why he is the way he is and all that jazz, to the welcoming smiles of many of his newest fans.

Sad thing is, when this occurs as so often, Teddy gets to eat, but I usually just get to sneak in my own bite every now and then, as its hard to talk with a crowd that forms when you have your mouth full, so I usually just tend to the task at hand, let the little guy perform for his fans and he gets to eat and I get to ............... stay hungry - :roflblack::roflblack::roflblack:

TBC................ that 4 lettered word again :cus:
