Dave & Teddy's Most Excellent Adventures 2012

Ugh, frustrating news today

Went & saw my surgeon again today for him to check the progress on my incission:pray: and he didn't have horrible news, but not good news either:( the swelling and redness have gone down, but its still draining alot, which is good, but still concerning.I've got 3 more days of antibiotics & he said he wants to see me again next Monday & on that visit, if its not mostly cleared up by then, he'll have to schedule me for surgery again. Full anasthesia, open the incission back up & see whats going on inside & clear it out if possible :cus:nojoke:mad::banghead:

rolex

was he wearing his watch when you saw him?:roflblack: very sad day at the park yesterday, four r t 's , and my g s all by itself. :( ..........i need some back up.

:(As of right now, we have cancelled our reservations for the hotel:( but it all depends on how well I'm doing when the time comes :dontknow: cause I'm suppose to return to work 6am on May1st:shocked: and sadly, that has to be my priority:shocked: but if we can make it, even for only a day or two:pray: you better believe we're gnna do ALL WE CAN TO MAKE IT :2thumbs::yes::2thumbs:
are you still sorta booked at Lady Bug?? If you need a room you know you are wlcome to stay at my house. Just feed the cats and you got friends for life!!!

We're on "we'll make room for u" if need be at LadyBug, but also have backup hotel pl

But right now, its not look'n good. If I have to be opened up again, all plans are off :banghead::gaah::banghead: We'll find out on Monday:pray::pray:

When you were a kid, did you ever get a bike for a Christmas present, but had to wait

til all the dang snow to melt & for it to warm up enough so you could actually take your new bike out for a ride?:hun::banghead: Well, in a round about way, thats where I'm finding myself, just different circumstances & its driving me :banghead:batty:banghead: Out in Teddys garage, we have a new Uni-Trailer & Spyder Lift just sit'n out there beg'n to be put to use:bowdown::bowdown: but with my back in its present condition, I don't dare. I've gone out many times & just  & imagined get'n Teds Sled up on the lift & tear'n it apart to add mods here & there:clap: And I'm just die'n to hook up that Wonderful trailer & take it for a spin :yes:But I'm NOT do'n it:lecturef_smilie: cause I know I can't right now:mad: Guess I'm just share'n my frustration with y'all :sour: On another note, I'm really worried about Teddy. Since I've been off work for the past 2 months, we've been together pretty much 24/7. When I was working, he had no problems with me leaving him in our bedroom upstairs with the tv on while I went to work for 8-10 hours. But I had PT today & when I went to put him upstairs, he freaked out. He usually always listens to me, but he absolutely refused to come, so I had to go and get him off the couch & when I picked him up to carry him up stairs, he was physically shaking like Ive never seen him shake before. I know its seperation anxiety, but I don't know how to help him with it. When I put him in the room & closed the door, he wouldn't stop barking & jumping against the doornojoke and 2 hrs later, when I returned, it was just like he never stopped. He didn't lay in the bed, nor mess with his toys or treats:shocked::shocked: I'm worried about whats going to happen once I start back to work:dontknow: On Monday, I took him with me to my Dr's visit & he was fine as usual, that is until I had to get up onto the surgical table for my surgeon to check out my incission. Once Teddy couldn't see me, he started stressing really bad, whimperring, whining, salivating & he even tried a couple of times to jump up on the table to get to me:lecturef_smilie: but the table was just too tall for him to make it & even tho he could hear me & smell me & even see my hand dangling down off the side of the table, he was still really stressed like I've never experienced before. I'm just not sure how to help the lil guy:dontknow: Anyone out there have any experience with dealing with seperation anxiety in dogs. I know this is my own fault, but its just him & I & has been for his entire life of 4 years & I can't help my current cicumstances :(

Dave, I have never had a dog but we have friends with them (breader/show judge) and I remember one talking about anxiety. Sometimes it appears to be helped with routines and/or limiting their area to roam, i.e. a crate. You may not like those options.

I saw tv ads for a security blanket, literally, called Thundershirt.com which hold the dog securely to reassure them. They are $40. Maybe worth a try?

Wish we could do more to help you......keeping our fingers crossed that the antibiotics work.

Greg

We use the Thundershirt on our dog. It actually needs to be put on before the dog is in full shake mode. For our dog, it's used sometimes when we (the gf and I) leave the house, when in the car, and when a storm is approaching. Our dog doesn't need it when on the spyder or riding in a convertible. Also, it doesn't completely stop the shaking; it does quiet it down quite a bit though.

Sometimes, I just don't get the Tedster - lol

We've lived in our condo since Teddy was an 8 week ole pup & it has a gated entry way & we don't have a door-bell, just an intercome system that buzz's. But low & behold, EVERY TIME a door bell rings on the TV he barks ........ :roflblack::lecturef_smilie::roflblack:EVERY TIME :roflblack::lecturef_smilie::roflblack:

There is also a calming med you can get at the pet store that will help. I have to use it on Wynston when he goes to groomers. Also remember you had to leave him for a good amount if time when you had the surgery. Longer than normal. May need to work by leaving him a small amount of time and keep increasing it. Just a thought. Search the Internet I am sure there is lots out there. Take care.

Teddy is very smart, and a fast learner. When your normal routine was disrupted with your injury, he picked up the new one fast. Now he sees another change. It will take a while for him to adjust, just like it will when you go back to work. He will likely fuss a bit, but it shouldn't cause him any harm. Just train him in the new routine. I'm sure he'll get the idea quickly. He's just worried about you, and has spent nearly every minute by your side for several weeks now.

I allowed myself to anticipate making SpyderFest, but after todays PT visit, I may

have set myself & Teddy up for disappointment :opps: My previous visit went well & the incission looked better. As soon as I got there today, my Therapist asked to check my incission. We were both anticipating that it was continuing to get better. But as soon as she removed the bandage, she let out an audible gasp followed by "OHHHHHH!" :yikes: She tried to downplay it, covered it back up & said she'd be right back, she needed to go talk with my surgeon:shocked: whom I see on Monday to get his determination on if he has to open me back up or not :banghead: Tonight, when changing the bandage, I noticed that I can feel lumps under my skin around the incission, no clue what the heck that is.:dontknow: Never noticed it before tho  I was trying NOT to get my hopes up about SpyderFest, but lets face it, its only once a year & its the LARGEST & BEST SpyderLovers get-together in the country and We were SO looking forward to seeing so many of our friends again. I'm still hoping  for the BEST tho

We will continue to pray that you can make the "PARTY". Maybe some of those lumps are "rocks" from the Rock Ryde :dontknow:........just from the anticapation!:roflblack:

There will be other Spyderfests. The important thing now is to get your health back. It would be best to concentrate on that, and worry less about the other things. Nancy and I have both had to suddenly put our lives on hold to deal with serious health issues over the years. It's not fun, but it is a necessary evil...and sure beats the alternative. I believe you heal better if you adopt a positive outlook and concentrate on getting better. Adjust your focus, let Teddy relieve the sadness, and keep moving forward. Like last year when you needed to deal with Teddy's injury, this too will pass if you give it time. We will continue to pray for healing.

Can't say it better than Scotty. Your health is a priority now. Prayers for healing.

You guys are correct, nothing tops ones health, without it, little else matters

Sunny and almost 80 degrees, was a Great day for Spyder Ryde'n

Teddy & I met up with 4 other local Cincinnati Spyder Ryders at Eden Parks Overlook & it was an Awesome day for another meet n greet. After we parted ways, Teddy & I headed out route 50 to meet up with family at a park close to Batavia that we've never been to, and we had some great roads & good times.:2thumbs: Being sunny & hot, we stopped by a UDF (United Dairy Farmers) & we both got our own ice creams :yes: Its so funny tho, cause Teddy knows nothing about pacing himself when eating, and its SO CUTE & FUNNY :roflblack::roflblack: when you see him get brain-freeze:yikes::yikes::roflblack::roflblack:

My surgeon is seeing if he can get the hospital to allow him to open me up tomorrow

Not what I was hoping for, but it IS what is needed. After seeing my surgeon today, he wants to open the incission back up, clean it out, see whats going on if possible & close it mostly back up, but leave it open a bit to allow for drainage. Hoping thats all thats needed & I'll go into the hospital late tomorrow & he'll operate on me after he gets done with his daily work load. Said it should only take about 15-20 minutes, but I'll still need to be put out & have to stay overnight again :( He's not sure that they'll be able to get a culture to grow, since I just finished a round of antibiotics yesterday. Worse case scinerio, the infection has spread further than he's thinking & its gotten as far as the spine, then I'd have to be on an IV antibiotic for 24/7 for 6 weeks, but he's thinking we're no where near that, just letting me know what the worse case scinerio could be. Was a little shocking that he wanted to get me in ASAP tho, like tomorrow night. I noticed this morning that the incission was pretty bright red, itchy & burning when I changed the bandage & still lots of drainage. When he was poking & proding, it was much more sensitive than ever before & he was able to ellicite some :cus::yikes: out of me, which really stressed Teddy out. He was trying to be good, and tho never aggressive, he didn't like the fact of me being in physical pain, but when we were all done, he still gave my doc high-fives, hand shakes & of course lickens :p So, looks like SpyderFest 2012 is out for us nojoke but we'll be keep'n a positive attitude & following along with all our SpyderLovers friends that post pics & vids of all the great times :joke:
