Dave & Teddy's Most Excellent Adventures 2012

WOOOOO HOOOOOO ***** Get'n Stoked for SITA

Randy, that place looks Great, especially compared to our last experience:shocked::roflblack::roflblack: I sent you a PM and wanted to say thanks again :bowdown:for the invite to share your site with us:yes::yes:

For those that are curious, Teddy and I will be packing up the camper and leaving for SITA as soon as I get off work on Wed. Aug.8th should be on the road around 3 or 4pm. Setting the GPS on Teds Red Sled to avoid Highways & Tolls, its looking like it should be about 800 miles one way and 17.5 hrs without taking into consideration for fuel/food/rest stops. So if you add in "TEDDY TIME":doorag: I'm hoping that we'll get there in about 24 hrs, but I've learned from past experiences thats nothing but a total guess:roflblack::dontknow::roflblack::lecturef_smilie::roflblack:

Dave......... clear your inbox out so I can PM you and not have to post it here !!!!!!!

I will call the campground and add you for thurs and fri. You can decide if you want to stay Saturday or not when you get there. We most likely will be going to the opening ceremonies mid afternoon so if your running late meet us at the Tail o the Pup, and we will set your camper up when we leave there.

I forgot if you liked coffee or not in the mornings and what do you take in it. Holly and I only use french Vinalla creamer in ours with no sugar, so if you want something different let me know.I know your not a picky eater ,so I don't have to worry about that part of it. I'm getting excited now !!!!!

ooooppppppsssssssss- sorry bout that, there should be room to send a PM now

Dave......... clear your inbox out so I can PM you and not have to post it here !!!!!!! :thumbup:I'm getting excited now !!!!!

:opps:Teddy gets SO much mail, but I made a little room, so you should be able to PM US now:thumbup: and as for the coffee :coffee: we take it the same way except I'll bring a few packets of the sweet stuff

:dontknow:IS IT TIME TO LEAVE YET:dontknow::yes::yes::yes::yes:

Had to borrow the car back from my buddy this morning- what a strange feeling

I can't tell you when the last time I drove the car was, before last night and this morning that is. It was such a strange, alien feeling being behind the wheel of a car again, so detatched almost like driving in a tank or something. But I have to admit, it was comfortable, so much so, Teddy didn't even bother with sticking his head out the window, he just laid in my lap and took a nap.

Yesterday was such a weird day, as we got our first dreaded :shocked:DPS*LIMP HOME MODE*

While out ryding to my buddies house, and this is right at 30,000 miles. Strange thing is, we were just ryding straight down the road, about 50 mph, in trailer mode while pulling the Moto-Mate Camper and everything was just fine. Me, again in my infinate wisdom:rolleyes: decide to switch the suspension settings that I usually keep adjusted to the firmest setting, decide to change it to the softest to see how it would effect the handling while towing the camper. I've found in the past, that keeping it on the firmest setting usually provided the best ryde, but since the camper was empty, just thought I'd see if there was any difference. And yeah, same as I remembered it, it gets a little more bouncy than I like when set on the softest setting.

TBC....... you know, that dang work thing

Continuation - The Dreaded ***LIMP HOME MODE***

So, there we were, bouncing happily along by the airport when we get to the tunnel where the planes drive right over us, and BAMN!!!:yikes: The engines power gets really weak, and I'm like, WTF???:dontknow: I look down to see this on the screen
attachment.php
1st time in 30K miles I guess isn't all that bad:shocked: So I pull over in the tunnel and put Teds Red Sled into N and then procede to pull up the codes (Mode/Select/Turn Signal Cancel Button Simultaniusly-sp?) if there are any, and I get this
attachment.php
but all the time I've spent on SL, I've not heard talk of these codes, or maybe I've just missed these discussions, as I've read about numerous codes, just not these. But no worries, as most have the same remedy of check the fuses and relays and then the battery connections to see if any are loose. Seeing as we were happily bouncing along, I was pretty sure this was what was causing our present delima, so I shut the byke down, got off and headed to the Frunk. I had recently been working with the fuses and relays due to blowing the F5 & F7 fuses when I installed the Rear View Camera on the Camper and overloaded the circuit on the towing/hitch wiring harness. So I go about making sure all the Frunk Fuses and Relays are nice and tight (which they seemed to be) and then closed it all back up. Proceded to get back on Teds Red Sled, all the while, he's looking at me like I'm crazy cause I parked in a tunnel and he's a little weirded out by it. I replace the key, turn it on, hit the Mode button, and :yes:YAY!!! We're back in business:yes::yes:

TBC again, work work work:sour::rolleyes:

So if Limpy was cured, why'd I have to drive a car to work today?

So yeah, everything goes back to normal for us, and on our Merry way we went:thumbup: without further issue from Limpy:clap: Thank God:bowdown:

So after we get home, I call my buddy up and ask if he's up to helping me install the Xenon Depot HID kit that Teddy had ordered after our left side headlight went out, which he was more than happy to assist with:thumbup: So we headed his way around 8pm, thinking it wouldn't take all that long to install.

Mind you now, for those that don't personally know me, I'm NO Techie in the least bit:dontknow: but I sure do know how to use the SpyderLovers Search Engine:bowdown: along with the MidWest Spyder Repair Manual:doorag:

In ALL HONESTY, if I didn't, we wouldn't be able to afford having Teds Red Sled as our daily driver and only mode of transportation year round, the maintenance costs, if all done by the dealer, would bankrupt me:shocked:

So, back to our story. So we get to my buddies and I pull Teds Red Sled into his garage and start stripping the front of the Spyders Tupperware, mirrors etc.... to remove the headlights from their nest. Xenon Depot makes a high quality product, but their install directions leave alot to be desired:shocked: After reading them a few times, I said heck with it and I'll bet SpyderLovers has a Thread on this:rolleyes: And wouldn't you know it, Phil to the rescue. That man has done so much to "Darth" and has chronicled just about every mod install with wonderful "How To" tips & Trciks not to mention awesome picture by picture as well:firstplace: After reading thru his install, we realized we were missing something very important, and that was a Polarity Checker. My buddy had one, that was like 20 yrs old, and sadly the batteries were dead and we didn't have any available to us at now 10pm:shocked: And since we both had to be at work at 6am the next morning, I called it a day and asked if I could borrow the car and that we'd continue our little lighting project the next day after work. So there you have it, my own fault as to why I had to drive in today:banghead::banghead:

TBC.....

My thought of the day- To each their own, people .......................

You know something? We SpyderLovers are an opinionated bunch, thats for sure. Guess that could be said for any cross section of a particular demographic, tho owning a Spyder comes with a certain "attitude" wouldn't you say?

Seems we (Spyder Owners) are somewhat on the outside of the glass house and are quick to be offended when someone "downs us" in one way or another for making the choices that we have to own a Spyder in the first place.

It saddens me tho when new forum members, eager for knowledge from the more experienced of us, ask questions that may not be all of our "cups of tea" and they get criticized for the question and told that maybe they should be looking at another type of vehicle altogether, and opinions are given even when not asked for, instead of helping to provide them the answers that they seek.

Part of owning any byke is modding it and making it so it suits the owners needs and wants, maybe outrageous and crazy to one, but who made you the judge, especially when your opinion wasn't asked for. One persons trash is anothers treasure, right?

Seems we have many here that like to throw stones at that glass house. Who knows, maybe theirs might get hit one day, and what a sad day that will be for them. Why must we criticize that which we don't agree with? My Mom taught me, "If you don't have something positive to add, then its best not to speak." Guess my mom lived in a different time than we....

Your mom was a smart lady Dave :)

The internet is a great and terrible thing. It allows people to say whatever they want and not really be accountable to the normal level of recourse for those statements. Much like various other avenues of life these days. Your mom lived in a time when people were more accountable. I applaud her, and you for being pretty upbeat and bringing this up.

I have been guilty of speaking out of turn lately, and I apologize, I think its about break time :)

Dave & Teddy

Congrats you two!!!! Way to go Len & Cowtown...you guys are always full of surprises. :congrats:

Would have been really cool if they let you take a picture of teddy inside the weiner mobile :roflblack:
:doorag: A HOT DOG inside of a hotdog  Sounds a bit cannibalistic, no:hun::roflblack::roflblack::roflblack:

I'll bet that Teddy was doing "tricks for samples". :roflblack:

:bowdown:Thankfully for me, the drivers were no where to be found  or Teddy never would leave:bbq: There are actually two of the Weiner Mobiles that park at the hotel down the street from us twice a year, as they tour the country. We've seen them numerous times, but the drivers are thankfully never around:clap::bowdown:

Making preperations for SITA !!! YAY !!! ROAD Trip, leaving Tuesday after work

Took Teddy to the Vet the other day, to make sure all was well for our upcoming road-trip to New York (NO:lecturef_smilie: NOT New York CITY:lecturef_smilie:) But upstate NewYork for Spyders In The Adirondacks :2thumbs::yes:

I hate the fact that they have to put the lil guy to sleep:lecturef_smilie: to do his teeth cleaning, but they claim its the best and safest way to go about it :dontknow: and I trust his Vet :bowdown:as she's always been great when it comes to The Tedster:doorag: Just the rest of the day, the poor lil guy was out of it, just aloof :rolleyes: But now all is well and we got extra meds to take along with us, just in case he needs them:thumbup: Get'n excited now :2excited::yes:

Dave........ make sure you bring proof of rabies shots with you for Teddy, the campground will want to see them. They asked me what type of dog he was because certain types of dogs are not allowed there ( Pitbulls, Rots, Dobermans ect...).

Thanks buddy, I DID forget to ask his VET for that- Better safe than sorry

Dave........ make sure you bring proof of rabies shots with you for Teddy, the campground will want to see them:thumbup:

:doorag:He always wears his Tags:thumbup: but some places like to keep a paper version in a file, so I'll get that just in case:2thumbs:

Got Teddys records taken care of yesterday- His Spyder, thats another story

WOW!!! For 4 days now, I've been driving the Cougar and wouldn't you know it, its in the mid 90s daily and the dang AC goes out nojoke Still not complaining:trike: as I know it could always be much much worse. I know in the end, the sacrifice will be worth while ;)

My Mom always used to say, "The Road to Hell is Paved with Good Intentions"

:opps: Its been said before "Self Inflicted wounds don't count:lecturef_smilie: but they hurt just the same" :opps:

This has been a learning week for me:bowdown: and for Teddy:doorag:

We got our Xenon Depot HID kit in and I thought it best to take Teds Red Sled over to my buddies house and inlist his assistance with the install. After going thru the install instructions, which are NOT Spyder specific, I also inlisted the help of the SpyderLovers Search Engine and found an :firstplace:AWESOME :firstplace: DIY Thread posted by Phil  complete with pics, tips and tricks

Seems I'm full of 'sayings' today, as another comes to mind thats fitting here as well "A little knowledge can be a dangerous thing" nojoke

Upon further research, I found that some Spyders were having issues with after-market HID lights and the system would go crazy throwing Codes. I found a good prevention for this issue was using the included Relay Harness so the HID Kit isn't directly tied into the system like original. Well me, here again in my infinite wisdom:opps: decided I shouldn't take any chances, and I was hell bent on using the included "Relay Harness" to hopefully avoid the aformentioned pit-falls:gaah:

TBC.... u know, that work thing again.......:coffee:
