CORBIN....never again

Corbin Needs to revisit their customer service for call in orders.

So far I am very satisfied with my Corbin seat (after 6000k)...BUT I am not satisfied with a special order I placed with them on 8/9 with the promise that I would have what I ordered in 2 weeks. They charged my credit card immediately. NOW I still do not have item...nor do I get any responses to my ?'s about "what's up?"...So based on this I would say Corbin needs to tweak their customer service for call in orders. I did a ryde in for my Corbin seat.
My reason for not going with a Russell? They do not have a fuel door feature that works (because they use the original pan and they have tried a couple times but both doors broke). So that was one of the must haves that I wanted so that eliminated the Russell for me.
Come on Corbin step up to the plate on customer service. Pissed off Spyderlovers are not going to help...we connect with a lot of potential customers.

I also agree, mine was sent back twice before I was able to fit it to my '09 Phantom SM5. I traded the Phantom in for a 2011 RTS and left the Corbin on it because I would have felt guilty if I sold this crappy seat to another SpyderLover. The worksmanship on the seat was at best horrible.

I felt compelled to offer up a positive for Corbin. Both my wife and I love the Corbin seat with armrests. I have had nothing but good dealings and my seat performed well.

We have almost 6,000 miles on the same setup and are as happy as can be with ours. Will be buying Corbin when we buy the second Spyder, too. I'm sorry some folks have had bad experiences. I would be on the phone with the folks at Corbin if I had a problem.
Regards,
Rich

Soooooo.... What brands of seats whould you guys be suggesting then? I had my heart set on a Corbin, but now you've got me nervous...

I agree with Scotty. I never had a RDL seat on a Spyder, but I did have one on the Honda ST1100 I drove cross country 2 years ago. I never got sore. It was a fantastic, great looking seat.

I m doing a bit of research now about rebuilding a seat myself for my Kawasaki 1100 Spectre. I purchased a used seat just for the pan and am gonna do some experimenting with different types of foam. I have instructions for building an electric foam cutter, etc. Should prove to be interesting, building a seat from scratch. :)

It's a bummer that yours is coming apart. Mine has been on since 2009 and I have about 45000 miles on it and it's holding up just fine. I just took this pic today :dontknow:

Bob D: I would not dump Corbin from your wish list based on some of the bad press from this thread.

I am sure you read my post in #4 above.

Based on past threads: I find that people either like or hate the Corbin--there is no in between. If your not sure about buying--try a ride on someone elses and see what you think.

I have had mostly good service--but I have also seen some earlier postings where the service was less than desirable, and phone communications with them have sometimes been less than customer friendly.

I purchased my big ticket stuff for the RS and GS during the winter--so I did not care about the month delay in getting it shipped to me--yes, I complained about it. Lamonster inquired if I had the item shipped by Ice Road Truckers.

I also lost one of the fairing screws down into the netherland bowels of the Spyder when I was installing. I never did get a replacement screw even though both I and my dealer tried to get one--I made do anyway. It was my fault the screw got dropped.

I think the good service/bad service has to do with who you end up talking to. Maybe Corbin should check on customer service personnel a little better. The bad one(s) do not help the businnes very well.

With my bad hips, I am probably going to add an Airhawk pad over the winter. The hard and firm seat felt good the last 40,000 miles--but now I seek something more cushy. I would change--but I still like the convenience of the gas door.

If I do change--there might be a half price Corbin in your future Bob.

Lamont,
What style "stitching" did you have them lay down on your seat?

"AK", Thanks for some reassuring words!
Nothing special, that was a stock seat when I ordered it.
Mine is only out in the sun and weather when I'm on a ride and I think that has a lot to do with it. I'm pretty sure any seat with exposed stitching in the weather day after day is going to break down.

:agree: The only way I would own a Corbin would be to buy very used one and then send it to Russell and have it rebuilt.

My has been good from day one and 12k later it was worth every quarter!

I've heard a lot of good things about the Russel seat, good looks is not one of them and that's where Corbin has most seats beat. I've had Corbins that I hated and Corbins that I've loved and the ones I have on my Spyders are the ones I love. My RT Corbin is the best seat I've ever owned comfort wise and it's a good looking seat too. There's a butt for every seat as they say. ;)

40,000 + miles on my Corbin seat and I love it. Buying a used one or a 'stock one' off of ebay isn't going to work well in many cases. When you order a Corbin seat from them they take your measurements, weight, etc....

It seems most that don't like them make their judgement before letting the seats properly break in---- 2,000 miles. I originally felt mine was 'pushing' me forward like many had reported---- but all it needed was more time with my butt sitting on it.

Corbin customer service has seemed to go downhill -- and I know they were for sale--- thought they had a new owner but can't be sure.

Only thing I do to keep my Corbin in good shape is to use their saddle cream every 3-4 weeks. Good stuff.

I wouldn't hesitate to buy another Corbin seat--- and will have one on any Spyder I buy.

My two wheels had a Mustang seat which I loved. I am satisfied with my RT-S saddle. I have taken several 2000 mile trips without a sore butt. However on my recent trip I did pick up a mesh and gel padded seat cushion for $20 from WallyWorld. It was cheap and very comfortable. I have thought about having the Spyder saddle cover removed, a fuel opening cut in the under-structure and recovered. I carry a "Lazy Rider" on the passenger seat and have to remove it every time I refuel. I use it as it is the perfect back-rest with a mild lumbar support and it carries quite a bit of gear.

Lucky with stock seat

I am one of the few, I guess, that is very satsified with the stock seat and my wife feels the same. I also have the Walmart gel cushions for the times during a long trip when you need something to change the pressure points. I have had many bikes in my 40+ years of riding and currently have 6 in the garage along with the spyder. My 1500 Nomad has a Mustang seat that seems fine but still I take along the 20.00 gel pad for longer trips. Can't beat it for the price. We just completed our trip out west on the Spyder that covered 13 states,18 days and 4,525 miles from strart to finish and never had a bad day on the stock seat. I guess my bottom just happens to fit the stock seat.

Sorry to hear you had trouble with your Corbin and got poor customer service.
Heard about the customer service from a few folks now. :(

I am still liking my Corbin and it is holding up well, so I have no complaints. Yes, it is still a bit more firm than I would like (after more than 6000 miles, it ain't gonna change) and I sometimes wish I had gotten the Lamont Cut for my size posterior. I've also seen pics of Forrest's and it looks pretty comfy too.
But I am mostly happy with what I have and I wouldn't give up that fuel door for anything. nojoke

On the flipside, there is a current post here on the site about poor customer service from Ultimate, so I think that will happen with just about any company at times.

I do also keep mine washed with Leather cleaner and apply conditioner each time I wash the RT. Only takes a minute and I think it will help lengthen the life.

I keep shopping for seats because the stocker just isn't all that comfy after a couple of hours and 100 miles or so... :gaah: Every manufacturer has to build whatever they're building to try and fit as many people as possible. I guess my errrr.... bottom just isn't "tops" in their book of priorities! :roflblack:

Corbin Customer Service Update

Yesterday I posted that altho completely satisfied with my Corbin Seat (wouldn't trade that fuel door for anything!! NICE+)...BUT that I had made a special order 7 weeks ago which I was not getting response to even tho Corbin had charged my credit card. Yesterday I emailed Corbin (hollister office) requesting Mike Corbin's email address. I received that so send him an email stating my issue with all dates of contact, etc. Also recommended that if he saw customer service as important he might want to peruse Spyderlovers forums for comments. OK email goes off....approximately 6 hrs later I get email that my special order pad SHIPPED that very day!!!!! :D
Me thinks the man just may have had something to do with that!!!!
Thanks Mike Corbin.

too much padding?

Hate to hear that with so much money involved. Maybe since they put so much padding in it, it did not give them enough material to stitch back up.
