Cold Weather Riding - Helmet Fogging

Since my Spyder allows me to extend my riding season almost all the way into the winter, helmet shield fogging is becomming more of a challenge for me. Has anybody used an HJC Universal Breath Box on any other type pf helmet and if so how well did it work? Other then cracking the shield, which does let in a bit a very cold air which does help elliminate the fogging a bit but makes my eyes water quite a bit which is just as bad as teh fogging, what else do my fellow spyder riders do to help minimize or even prevent shield fogging.

Thanks.

better yet...

Has anyone tried the rain-x product that is for fogging?...is it fog-x or something like that??

I figured that might work...if it does, I'll use it for my snorkel goggles too!

I wear a HJC Symax II helmet. First, the helmet vents themselves are far batter than any of my previous HJC full coverage and flip up helmets. I also use anti fogging spray. You have to put on several applications but it generally works. I just returned from a weekend trip and on Sunday, it was about 40 degrees and raining. Stayed fog free with the shield closed. I tried a popular spray (Dr. Zook) but that didn't work too well. Found some other stuff that is about $3.50 a bottle and it is working reasonably well. Good luck.

Helmut fogging is just a part of life once in a while you have to just open it quick wipe with glove and repeat when nessasary :doorag:

there are several no fog products used in the scuba industry i would imagine that they would be of some benefit:2thumbs:

My Scorpion helmet has a no fog shield, that works well. Unfortunately with the chin curtain installed, and their breath deflector that is too far from my nose, my glasses fog up instead. Oh well...

I have the HJC fossil helmet and it came with breath deflector. No fogging issues - kind of looks like a jet pilots oxygen mask.

You could also try just cracking one of the vents just a little when riding and lift shield a little when stopped. Sometimes one just has to live with letting some cold air in.

If you want to do away with shield fogging forever in one step; go to any of the major accessories suppliers and get a Fog City No Fog Shield. It inserts on the inside of your shield and it WORKS; no ifs, ands or buts. Your glasses may still fog, but your shield won't. Scotty, wearing a "Gator" or similar product with a nose piece really helps with the glasses fogging. Ryde Safe and Enjoy:thumbup:

Actually, I seem to have the same problem with either a breath deflector, a balaclava, or with a gator alone, but I haven't tried a gator in combination with the breath deflector. I think the root of it all may be my skinny cheeks, and I am stuck with those. I normally wear my Fulmer helmet in cool weather because it does not fog things up as badly, but the Spyder is windier, so I like the chin curtain, even with a balaclava. Fortunately, the digital speedometer readout is large enough that I can read it without my glasses, but the rest of the dash is a big blur. I'll sort it out. Nancy seems to have fewer problems with her glasses, but her helmet shield fogs. Different combination (and different motorcycles) do different things.

Earlier this week it was 33 degrees in the morning when I went to work. I put on my Ski-doo jacket and Ski-doo BV2S helmet and no fogging at all. I've used this helmet snowmobiling for the last 4 years as cold as -30 degrees and it is great. No fogging of the shield or my glasses, very warm, and quiet at speeds. It is not a cheap helmet but when the temperature drops there isn't anything better out there.
