Cherohala in the winter ?

Anyone know if there is a way to find out current temp & road conditions on the Cherohala Skyway ? Even though it gets up over a mile high, might be interesting to take a ride if its not ice covered. Pretty mild winter so far, anyone interested?
Friday looks like the best candidate!

I was up in that area this past weekend. This morning there was snow in Blue Ridge and with the temp at 0800 of 16. It started snowing yesterday afternoon in Franklin, NC. You might watch the weather for Telico Plains but it will be much colder up there.

Aw, just a Ga cold snap, supposed to warm up Friday.

Buddy went riding yesterday (New Years Day). They rode the Dragon over to Robbinsville, NC and then back via Cherohala Skyway. He said there was road salt on the road and snow on the shoulders of the Cherohala Skyway. He said the temps on the Skyway dropped to the mid 30's when they were there around 3 PM. With this cold, I'm sure any of the left over rain is now ice and they probably got more snow too, as the surrounding counties received 1 to 2 inches of snow...but mostly north not much down south...

There use to be a web site several years ago with live weather data but I haven't come across it lately...

Warm day on the Cherohala!

Made a Loop yesterday from Chattanooga to Tellico Plains, across the Cherohala and back via Murphy NC on 64. Coldest temp was mid-40s at the top of the Cherohala (over 5300') and the road was mostly clear but lots of snow on the sides. Total loop = 241 mi.
Here's how it looks:

NOAA national weather service. Google it and it will show you the web site. Click on area and it tells all.

Yes, the scenic views at the top of the Cherohala were as impressive as ever, but a lot of that white stuff at the edge of the road was salt spray leftover from the road crews days ago. At times it was really nasty but I gave the RT a serious bath in Murphy on the way home!
