Checking oil level

How often is everyone checking their oil level? I have about 1100 miles on my bike and have not checked it once. From what I'm reading on the other forums, it seems like the 1330 doesn't burn oil like the 998 did. Thoughts? Never had a problem with my prior Kawi and Victory as well although I changed the oil myself every 3000 miles on them.

As I see it..!!

the the new engines are so easy to check why not every thousand to be safe...I do a safety check before any long ryde including oil level, water level and fluid levels....

I've got 38,500 miles on my 1330 - RT and I have not used a drop of oil yet. Unlike the 998 where I would go through a quart between oil changes.

I am up to 7,500 miles and have not added any oil since my first and only oil change at 3,000 miles. I check it occasionally to make sure but I agree it does not burn any oil unlike my 2012 RTS did...

I'm up over 2800 miles and it's still fine. My RT used to burn oil, so I got in the habit of checking it every 300 miles. I checked the F3S a lot at first but have started to relax that. I'll probaby eventually get used to the every 1000 miles, but it's so easy to do I might keep my regular schedule.

Old Habits

I have this old habit of checking everything once a week. Tire pressures, oil. lights & horn etc. every week during riding season. Probably unnecessary but it gives me peace of mind.

It is good to do the checks. I now have a hard time to get down on the floor and do the air in the tires or to check the oil on the 998. I tough it out though.

As mentioned, the 998 does burn some oil--about a quart between oil changes for me.

The 2014 has not used any oil. I like that a lot.

On a "new " motor . . . . .

. . . . I check it every 300 miles, just to make sure everything is OK. I am thinking that any loss before the 3k inspection would indicate a problem.

Given the reputation of the 1330, after the 3k inspection, I will check it whenever I am doing my 'monthly' full Spyder inspection or 1k, like the manual specifies.

I added a quart of oil at 2,000 miles on my 2014 RT-S. There were no problems. These break in 2,000 miles were hard mountain riding with twists and turns, braking and downshifting. No signs of any oil leaks. Had my 3,000 mile service and all is well with no signs of any leakage. I check the oil every 300-500 miles.

Good to know . . .

. . . . . from what I've heard, a quart at 2k would put me in 'vigilant' mode. None of my Spyders has ever lost that much, but I would not be alarmed. Given that I do at least 50% of my miles like you describe, I may need to adjust my expectations.

Thanks is for the heads-up.

I guess I'm old school. I check everything before every ride. Tire pressure all fluid levels turn signals brake lights. Out here in the Wild West it's better to know every thing is work. In New Mexico and Arizona you can travel for long periods of time and not see another vehicle. I know anything can happen at may time I just feel better starting out that way. Just me!

I thought that the engine had to be warm to accurately check the oil?? I know the 998 did, so I always checked it when I returned from a ride. When they were teaching me how to check the oil on the F3, they said that at least 2 cycles of the fan had to run (if you let it sit there to "warm up" -- which they said took about 30 minutes to achieve). How do you check the oil with the engine cold before a ride?
