There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. charging sys failure

Update on the failure of the charging system on my 2013 RT Limited, The dealer just called
and informed me the stater was fried. :banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead:
This bike only has 12,000 miles on it and i was very lucky that it failed near home.
The worst part of the whole deal and what pi****es me the most the dealer informs me the
parts will take up to 2 weeks to arrive from Canada. I love this machine but I'm getting a bad
taste in my mouth toward BRP.
Wondering if the excessive heat problems with the 2013 RT contributed to this problem.
The dealer said he had never seen this before, any one else had this problem?

 I'm sorry to hear that this has happened, but I doubt that the temperatures underneath the Tupperware would have affected the component. Since the magneto is right up against a liquid-cooled engine: those would be the temperatures that might have the largest effect on it.
Have you made any additions to the "electrical grid" on he bike? :dontknow:
See if your dealer can give you a loaner... good luck!

My 2010 had a stator failure.
Basically one wire burned through to ground and I lost a leg off the circuit.
This kind of failure is kind of rare but since it happens inside the engine in an oil cooled environment heat has little to do with it.

Make sure they replace the oil seal around the wire bundle.

Thanks for this info! This would make it pretty tough for anyone to point a finger at what you've done to the bike.

Even if you had a popcorn popper and 60 foot decorative fountain hooked up two things should blow before the stator:
The Main 60 amp fuse and then the Voltage regulator.

Those stators remind me of the Harley Stator and they have the same problem on them. Once they go you have to take off a bunch of parts to access the stator and IMO are undersized.

Not sure if BRP is using a 3 phase type as Harley as they are more reliable too. But do have issues from time to time..

That could be why BRP went to a alternator for the newer models..

3 phase wye connected.
Actually a magneto is, compared to an alternator, nearly bullet proof.

BRP uses a 3 phase oil cooled generating coil/stator in the 998 engines. I would guess that I see about 2 or 3 reports a year where the stator fails.

Going to a air cooled alternator adds weight and complexity to drive it. Once you have made that switch then you can get much higher capacity without a problem of getting rid of the heat.

Sorry to hear what happened. Electrical systems sometimes they produce gremlins when other farkles are added and they don't get along.:roflblack::roflblack::roflblack::roflblack:

Tell me about it....

The older GoldWings used to also "pop" their stators every once in a while...

Bummer this happened and hopefully they will check all components. Rectifiers and connections etc...
as to old goldwings, you had to pull the whole engine assembly to get to the stator. Back then it was a flat rate of 8 hours. Though I found short cuts and could get it done in half the time I also got stuck doing a lot of them....:banghead::banghead:

Thanks for getting back to us with updates....wish the dealers could use other sources for the parts cause I find cheapcycleparts.com has a better stock than brp...
