• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Changing the oil

Well I got around to changing my oil for the first time. I came up an idea for a container to drain the oil into. It seems that most of the oil companies came up with the five quart jugs. So, I took one of these that was empty and cut a hole in the side. Leaving the cap on, this makes a low profile drain container.DSCN1273s.jpgIt's got handles on so it makes it easy to move around under the Spyder. Better than the bulky one I use for my truck.

I bet you now thinking how is he going to drain the container? Well, I got one of those pumps I have used to put gear lube into the differentials of my truck. I put the pump into the drain container and the hose into the empty Amsoil bottles and filled them with the drained oil. :D You can get the last little bit of oil out of the drain container by unscrewing the cap and pouring the remainder into one of the quart bottles.

Feel free to copy my idea.

OIL CHANGE IDEA

I like the way you think , However IMHO because of the cost no one here will ever use it........:shocked:...:agree:....:roflblack:..:roflblack:..:roflblack:....:roflblack:....Mike

Your idea is good, but try this instead.

What you do is, pull your Spyder over top of the citys storm drain and drain your oil over it. This way there is no clean up at all.
No container needed.

That might add another 6 months time with the E bracelet.

I think this is called 'Going Brown' as opposed to 'Going Green'. Has its advantages!

I have been doing the same thing for probably 30 years. I use a plastic 10 litre john deere hydraulic fluid container. Trimmed similar to yours. The john deere container has probably a 2.5 to 3 inch dia lid. when I dump the used oil, I just dump back into a marked 4 l oil jug using the supplied lid.

I use this. Extract (WARM) oil from oil tank (Close to 3 quarts)- Undo Drain plugs and Filters and catch (Remaining) oil in a Large pan- Pour into extractor- See how much you took out- Put in same exact amount plus 3-4 ounces. Little mess- Little fuss- C,est Fini!!! :yikes:

Works Great on lawn mower and Snow Blower to extract oil (Without Draining) and replace same amount in 10 Minutes!!

I just changed my oil for the first time today. I would have liked to know that the drain plugs are 6mm allen heads!:gaah: And that the oil filter is 5mm( at lease I could see that I would need an Allen wrench for those). Maybe it could be add to the How to Post, along with the list of tools needed...T40 to remove panels, 6mm Allen for the drain plugs, and 5mm Allen for the filter cover.

The fact that the oil filter and drain plugs are Allen have been noted many, many times on this Forum..
