Change out clutch fluid.

Hey guys/gals.


Anyone ever change out their clutch fluid, themselves?

The shop and owners manual says to replace the clutch fluid (flush the system and refill) at the 12,000mile / 20,000km mark.

Page 142-146.

Just wondering if anyone has done this yet, themselves with out a vacuum pump, and have any tips to offer.

Changing the clutch fluid on the Spyder (RS SM5) seems straight forward from the manual, most important part of course being all air bubbles are out of the system and refill to the fill mark.


Wondering if a standard brake bleeding kit (bottle, pvc hose and fittings) would work, ok for changing out the clutch fluid?

Check with Sabunim5 He did his own 12000 mile service. I'm sure he can tell you what you needand how to do it. Send him a pm. He is usually online during the day. The next time I see him. I'm going to get him to go into the details of doing the service himself.

Dean, You are absolutely correct. You have the right stuff (a standard brake bleeding kit and some fresh fluid) and you are already aware of the few potential problems. As with the brake bleeding process, you really need two people. I suppose you could accomplish it by yourself if you had really, really, really long mutant kind of arms. :roflblack: Randy, I am going to put my Evoluzione sway bar on this weekend.

Steven, thanks for your reply on this. I have some DOT 4 fluid on my purchase list, hope to pick some up and follow the procedure within a couple weeks.
