I just got the CHAD this afternoon from the big brown truck and I have a few comments on the installation.
First, I used the stock bolts to hold down the plate and the supplied bolts to attach the windshield. I can see how they seem short but properly tightened down the threads come right to the back of the nut and considering the lack of significant load on these I imagine that was the way they were designed.
Second, they include 8 rubber washers to mount between the metal to both cushion and provide friction. I didn't like the way the shield binds up so I took a quick trip to Lowes and got 4 nylon washers and 4 additional stainless washers. I used the nylon between the brackets and the stainless on the outside where the plastic nuts contact the bracket. It seems to tighten up just fine but now when you loosen them the screen slides up, down, up and back like butter.
Third, when installed the screen was tilted to the right. By tilted I mean the right side top was further back than the left. If made the screen look off center. To correct this I had to shim the right top tab on the base bracket using 2 of the washers from the stock shield. That rotated the base ever so slightly counter clockwise. That got it very close but to get it perfect the bent the screen mounting tabs on the left bracket about 1/16" down. That pulls the left side of the shield down and has the effect of rotating it that last little bit counter clockwise to get it square.
I took a short ride in both the lowest and furthest back position as well as the highest and furthest back and I think this is going to work out well for us. For me the up and back position was great and based on the feel the down and back position will be great for Joyce @ 5' tall.
We'll give it a few rides before we decide if I'm going to trim the edges.
BTW, this is Joyce's Spyder but somehow I end up doing all the wrenching
