• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. CB question

I think this CB problem has been talked about on this forum before but can't find it.

When I TX the CB Mod screen will stay on for awhile. By hubby said that it sound like that I'm still TX and he is unable to answer me back. The TX goes off once I release the PTT button. Hubby said it will still TX for up to 30 seconds.

Is this a setting problem and a PTT button problem?

Other wise I'm very satisfied with the CB.

Jornie1 thank you for the link but do you know if BRP has a fix for this problem? If anyone know about the fix, please let me know so I can be knowledgeable when I talk to the dealer again.

I made a call to the local dealer but didn't know of this problem. I ask them to check with BRP that they know of the probelm. I have not heard from them so I will give them a another day or so then call them back.

I have a 2010 RT-S that was purchased in April 2010. CB and communication accessory was installed by me, and when I used CB for first time in August, noticed the "lingering transmitter" issue. This was noticed shortly after I'd noticed that I had a bouncing gas gauge (which appeared suddenly after accumulating about 3500 miles).

I never did anything about the CB, either myself (checking connectors, wiring harnesses) or reporting to dealer, as my CB use was not a priority and I'd basically forgotten about it. Everything else (intercom, radio, etc.) was all working fine.

A few weeks ago, had the dealer check out the bouncing gas guage, and they wound up ordering and replacing the gauge. It fixed the bouncing needle perfectly!

Now, having read all the talk about the CB issues, I remembered and went back to bike to see if my symptoms were as others have described. Now I find it's working fine... no lingering transmitter. It switches back to RX instantly after releasing the PTT button (whether the driver's button or passenger's PTT harness).

Is it possible the bouncing fuel gauge and lingering transmitter issues are related? Are any of you with the lingering transmitter noticing a bouncing fuel gauge? :dontknow:

At least for now, all systems on my RT are running fine... now if only the weather would cooperate!

Bill

I had the gauge problem and had it replaced before I had the CB installed so I don't think it's related.

+1 dont think its related. my guess is if you use the CB more you will find the TX sticking will rear its ugly head. it doesnt happen all the time but enough that you will notice if you have a longer conversation via the CB

Bill, my PTT button works fine, but I only have a few miles on my RT. My problem is POOR receive...it seems to transmit 1/2 mile or so, but I get garbled and static when my friends answer me. I have the squelch down and volume up....not sure what else to do. The mic gain has nothing to do with the CB...just the passenger comm as far as I know. Is this correct? Any suggestions. CB was installed by dealer. I am not sure what they can do about this problem.

Hi George,

From the installation I did of the CB and antenna, a few thoughts come to mind that the dealer ought to take a look at (IMHO):

1) the antenna lead connects to the CB module box (located under pillion seat on the right side) via typical CB connector - is connection made securely?

2) the antenna lead routs over to left side and up into the left rear speaker nacelle, and the rout it takes could have damaged lead. Also, as you know, if the lead was kinked and then straightened, it could have damaged the internal wire even though the outer casing is still intact. There could be some evidence of distress that could be a sign that the antenna wire may be damaged internally.

3) there is a ground strap (braid wire) that the antenna base (a small block of metal the antenna attaches to) is grounded with. Did they install the ground strap? Are attachments at each end clean and secure?

4) the SWR of the antenna is something you'd mentioned that typically needs to be fine tuned, but as you know, there's no adjustment capability here (as far as I could tell), unless there's an adjustment to the module.

The dealer probably ought to swap out the module if none of the above turn anything up. They may have other troubleshooting procedures they'd follow based on BRP's advice.

Sounds like your dealer has been very responsive to you, so I'm sure they'll get it figured out to your satisfaction. Keep us updated!

Thanks for the good items to check, Bill. I will print these out and give them to my dealer. One RT owner I met at the TX Trike Reunion last week had hooked a SWR meter to his box and trimmed some off the end of the antenna to bring the SWR down some. It did not help his problem. He has a different problem...bad static when transmitting...but receives fine....go figure. I think he has a defective CB unit. I appreciate your insight.

CB fix???

I've been in - around - and on top of this sticking/lingering TX problem for over a year now. I have communicated directly with BRP, two different dealer service departments and the manufacturer of the CB, Radio Sound of Louisville KY. All of the above know that, "with the 2010 RT's only" they have this problem. Somehow, they fixed the problem on the 2011 RT's. Last report, as recent as 1 wk ago, BRP is working on a fix for the 2010 RT's.

It is very annoying and in some cases could be dangerous, "IF" you are depending on instant comm between you and another rider that may be watching out for your well being. Kim & I nearly always ride together on His 'n Her's RT's. We have well over 100K miles of combined riding His 'n Her's on two & three wheel machines. Over that time we came to depend on CB communication for safety as well as just plain convenience purposes.

Hint...after transmitting, immediately following your last word...try clicking the PTT button rapidly, 2 - 3 times. That seems to work most of the time. The only hitch is...the person waiting to answer you back MUST delay their response until you are through clicking... While we wait... I Hope this helps...Len

Oops forgot to mention...

Other than the lingering TX, both our CB's work flawlessly. Clear, no static or feedback on either system. Range is OK but we're never very far apart. We can usually depend on a mile or two depending on line of sight obstructions.

We both have Arai Helmets pre-wired by J&M Motorcycle Audio. If anyone should have this done by J&M, make sure you get the proper lower cord connector that spcifically fits Cam Am. (HC-ZVT) lower cord. Len

thanks Len, Like you and your wife, we count on the CB. I have over 200,000 miles either as a co-rider, rider of 2 wheels and will be adding more miles with the Sypder. Sure hope BRP find a solution for this problem soon. Will be going to Americade in June.

Yes, otherwise no other problems with the CB.
