There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Cat delete on 2014 RTL

A few week back I decide to do a cat delete on my :ani29:. Me being lazy I didn't jack the :ani29: up. So it was a little cramp to work on. I removed the converter and took it to a local muffler shop. Also there is a half moon metal piece that slides on the exhaust pipe going to the engine take this too so they can get the size of the flared end right. To removed the Cat take muffler off (1 bolt holds the muffler to frame and 1 clamp attaches the muffler and cat together) removed 3 springs that hold the cat to the exhaust to the exhaust pipe going to the motor. Than removed the cat. I had some chain that was about the same size as the bracket that you hook the springs to hold the cat to the exhaust pipe. The chain I cut one end off 3 links put each link in vice bent them to 45 degree angle. The muffler shop will weld them to the bypass. When I installed the bypass pipe I couldn't get the spring that next to the frame back on because too tight of space ( not enough angle to be able to hook spring in tight space I will some day put it on it will involve jacking spyder up (more room to work with) unbolt every thing put this spring on first because you can move the bypass pipe around) Total time for removal of cat and replace bypass pipe 1 to 1.5 hours. Cost of bypass pipe $45. The bypass make the spyder have a little deeper sound but not too loud. I put 750 miles on it the 2 spring seems the hold the bypass in place but I will one day put the 3rd spring back on.

that sounds great!!! Right price also. Understand there are R&D costs that must be recouped; however most of the after market pieces available seem exceedingly high in price.:yikes:nojoke

And should you need to can always put the cat back on, I like it !

photos

Did you take any photos of the bypass before you installed it? I am going to take my cat off next week and take it to a few muffler shops to see if I can get one to fabricate a bypass for me.
Thanks,
ShadyGrady

YES

YES, it has a new tone to it....
i forgot to tell you that... but after following you for 160 miles, it does sound different - sort of like a European sports car...

I would like to make this mod some day myself. Other motorcycles I have had, when the exhaust system is modified, the ECU needs to be remapped because of the change in back pressure on the engine. I think the engine will run leaner when the back pressure is reduced, I could be wrong. Anyone have any experience with it.

No I didn't but it is not that hard to remove. If I did it again I would jack the spyder up so I will have more room to work. If you do this take the cat and the half moon metal ring (it slide on the exhaust from the motor) with you to the muffler shop. Also stress to them that you only have 1/2 in adjustment on the muffler so make sure they get the length right on the bypass pipe.

I'm pretty sure the O2 sensor is before the CAT so removal shouldn't effect the ECU ............................Mike

Cool that you were able to have a shop fab a bypass pipe for you.

I was very hesitant to buy the Pitbull bypass for our 2014. I will say it was not inexpensive, however the method of fabrication by welding sections of preformed mandrel bent stainless, that were each cut, aligned and welded shows where the time is.

The Pitbull bypass so far has been a quality item for us. Not free, but rather a semi expensive plug and play.

As for the engine performance, computer resetting itself and so forth, we do not run an air fuel gage but overall the engine seems happy, the exhaust tone is good and the power output and mid range pull moved up about 500 to 800 rpm.

Best though is the reduction in heat radiated out from the underbody while stopped on a hot South Florida day.

FWIW, to install the missing spring, undo the mid pipe from the headpipe. Position the spring anchors for the difficult spring as close as possible by moving the slip joint. Once install, use the leverage of the pipes to make installing the remaining springs easier.

All the best with it.
