• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Capital letters don't carry over in quotes

From the thread where you originally posted FTFY

Got the reply from a different thread. FTFY = Fixed That For You.

PS: the CAPITAL function seems to be working for me. :dontknow:

So apart from this 'Known Issue' thing, when you type ONLY an unintelligable string in All Caps but the software won't recognise it, is there still a problem??

If someone knows code, it WOULD be an easy fix but let's try something (in the next posts).

No, I know enough of code & coding to know this REALLY isn't all that much of an easy fix. ;) Believe me, if it's a conflict between various un-related lines, then even finding it could be pretty difficult, let alone FIXING it! :yikes: And then there's all the other priorities the platform designers/coders have to contend with &/or satisfy - even with machine generated coding, de-bugging, and testing, a little thing like this, which really isn't all that much of an issue, could easily keep on sliding down the priorities list and never quite make the cut...

See the difference between post #17 & post #18 above? Both FWIW BTFSOM strings were typed in All Caps, but there was no recognisable 'word' in the first try at post #17, so the 'Known Issue' converted the caps to lower case - who knows why, the coders sure don't!! :gaah: Then simply by adding the word 'this' (or 'it' - which is what I tried first, just to see. ;) ) to the string of unrecognised letters, the 'All Caps' were allowed.... who knows why, the coders sure don't!! :gaah: THAT's why it's not an easy fix - no-one really knows why this happens or where the bit of coding in amongst all those Tens of Thousands of lines of Code that causes it to occur might be - heck, it might be a conflict between a few otherwise totally un-related bits of code in completely different places/doing completely different things that's causing it, but it's NOT EASY to identify where/why/how, or it would've been sorted already! :banghead:

Not directly related but whatever happened to Anthony's plan to move to another forum s/w platform? At one time it was imminent but for some time now, nothing.

You'd really hafta ask Anthony that one, but do be aware that there's a LOT involved in just getting ready for such a transfer! :dontknow:

It's bad enough when you're just 'Upgrading' from one version of any platform software to the next version of the same platform, where with any luck, the platform developers will have done most of the work to make sure you don't lose any functionality, data, &/or history, etc; but then when you want to not only want to do an upgrade on what's already there but also change the platform entirely, where the old platform developers haven't done anything to smooth the transition, well that's a whole new universe of difficulty!

And then you've gotta find the right time to do it; enough time to do it; work out how long it's going to take if all goes smoothly; prepare contingencies just in case it doesn't all go smoothly; and a whole bunch more besides..... there's a lot more involved than most people think! :p . Just like watching a duck swimming serenely on a pond, few are aware of how much paddling is going on below the surface to keep it all looking smooth & calm above! And we aren't the only Forum &/or Platform that Anthony is looking after either. Sooo, other &/or conflicting priorities can mean that 'imminent' might occasionally take a bit longer to convert to 'done' than it would in other circumstances/environments - and all that's before you even consider the possibilities in changing/developing customer needs &/or wants!!

Still, in the meantime, I'm thankful we've got what is after all a pretty good Forum with few major issues populated in the whole by a bunch of fairly interesting, friendly, and helpful people; and funnily enough, most of them seem to have at least ONE if not a few of the same interests as I do! :ohyea: Aren't you?!

Thanks. I just happened to think about it when I read the comments above about s/w! IMO, this actually is a quite good running forum in terms of admin, rules, and s/w. Can't think of anything at the moment that irritates me about it, except maybe the strictness of the "no political posts" rule! ;)

As a long term IT “person” at all levels, I agree completely with you, Peter. This really is a non-issue except for the OCD among us, and finding and rectifying this just is not worth the effort, especially as potential issues may arise from this fix.

For those of us who really do have CDO (that would be the OCD way of stating that as the letters are in the correct order), it does make a difference although like I said a few posts back, it's not something that's going to get sorted so I'll just have to live with it.

Hahahaha......that certainly gave me a chuckle, MONK, Monk, monk, knoM. :ohyea:
