• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Can-Am Hybrid Spyder

I grew up on musclecars, and still love my tundra. But here in So. Cal the gas prices are ridiculous, and I wonder how long before we see $4.00 a gallon again? My next vehicle will be a hybrid or plug-in. The spyder's mileage is much worse than my last motorcycle, and I would jump at the opportunity for a hybrid and less reliance on foreign oil. I was drawn to the spyder because of the innovation--I hope they keep moving forward and develop the hybrid for production.
 
You know... Can Am has a one litre Vee-Twin in their Comander UTV that is 4wd... What if they took THAT enigine with the extra output shafts and stuffed the whole mess into the Spyder chassis with some extra drivetrain parts up front sending the power out into the "Y"??

I like the sound of my loud pipe and engine too--- but the electric version very well could take the gas version in 0-60. Problem with all electric would be range-- perhaps why hybrid is the idea.

I don't believe the article said anything about actually bringing this to market---- sounds more like doing it just because they can.

:agree:...and the Canadian Government has had a tendency to be very generous with BRP,any research into Hybrid technology is bound to find grants and/or tax incentives in this country.
 
I love some of the details on this concept vehicle. I hope some of them make it to production someday...hybrid or not. The whited-out details look great! I suppose the footpegs would get dirty quick, but they look real sharp. I like the louvers on the rear of the fenders, although I'm not thrilled about the shape in the front. The wheels are just plain outstanding!!! BRP has some talented folks working for them. :thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:
 
Yes, the wheels are very nice indeed. They are obviously focusing much more on aerodynamics and air management around the chassis. I believe the fender louvers are more geared toward inducing and/or managing air around the wheel. Possibly to cool a motor eh?

Either way, I do believe that some of these innovations will in fact make its way to production, be it on the hybrid or the internal combustion models we enjoy today. The goal should always be to improve upon what you have achieved already.
 
I love the direction we're moving in - motorcycles, cars, whatever. And I think a 3 wheeler is particularly well suited to battery power, because the rider does not have to hold up or balance the weight of the batteries, and the vehicle overall can be made to be relatively light.

I'm still curious to see how good a machine GM made in the Chevy Volt, and whether it is a practical vehicle. I sure hope so.

I love the direction we're moving in - motorcycles, cars, whatever. And I think a 3 wheeler is particularly well suited to battery power, because the rider does not have to hold up or balance the weight of the batteries, and the vehicle overall can be made to be relatively light.

I wonder if the direction of research will be for the "Urban" rider or the "Cruiser"? It is my understanding that a "Hybrid" engine offers Zero advantage to the High-way driver.(Re: fuel consumption) If I've got that wrong,please fill me in.
Most of my riding is high-way.Hybrids are expensive,I can't see myself shelling out a bunch of extra cash for a feature that I won't be able to use or rarely use.
 
This is a very cool concept indeed, and it appears they have a lot of bright people working on trying to make it a reality. I do like the fact they are also concentrating on the aerodynamics on this model, and the paint scheme is outstanding as well. It will be very interesting to see where this project goes, and how much the finished model differs from the prototype.
 
I think that you're right; Eraser... Those of us who don't spend much (or ANY) time amongst the urban traffic scene would see very little advantage. (Other than the cool paint job!) Electric vehicles are touted as a way to deal with air quality issues where traffic densities are the highest. It's also true that gas-powered vehicles are at their worst in urban environments when it comes to fuel economy...

Give me the open road and something powered by dinosaur squeezins'! :thumbup:

With the current state of this technology, it doesn't really do me any good where I live. I rarely ever ryde where the speed limit is 35 or less and, unless I travel to one of the neighboring cities, traffic is never a real issue either.

It is still a cool concept, and as the technology continues to improve it will become even more viable for us out of town dwellers.

Based on TrickieDick's link, you are correct and I agree with you.

There's no hybrid in my future, either car or spyder. But, I am glad they are trying to develop a green spyder for those that want to go that way.
