There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Can-Am Hybrid Spyder

I'd prefer an all-electric drive train--- and just use a smaller gas engine to produce electricity to power it... kind of like the Volt does (although the Volt's setup technically can get some drive power from the gas engine too).

Trains have run this way for years - diesel generators produce electricity for electric drive train.

It does look like a plug-in for electric on the left side-- wonder if these are real pics or just a rendering?

It's a plug-in... Yeah, definitely a plug-in!! :roflblack: Hard to tell if it's a rendering or not. Looks pretty real. ANd if they are going to go electric for the main drive, I have to go with Doc; make it AWD! a Motor at each wheel. I will reserve judgement until something actually gets rolled out. Lots of possibilities. I still want more power and mid-range torque! Not sure the Hybrid can deliver.

This is very easily possible especially for the room this vehicle has once the engine is gone. I fly electric R/C planes and it's unbelieveable what a lithium polymer battery can do and how light they are compared to Nicad or lead acid batteries(1/2 to 1/3 the weight). There's always A123 cells, they powered an electric powered drag bike long before the OCC chopper machine of 2010.
Aside from the no longer new technology of brushless motors, which includes no electrical brushes and armatures to worry about wearing out, no electrical noise causing electronic malfuction(remedied by capacitors). Drive shaft bearings, magnets and wire is all the motor has. There is also a no longer new type of electric motor out called and outrunner, the torque is much more powerful than that of a standard electric motor. The the majority of the outer shell rotates because the magnets that are mounted on the drive shaft of the standard electrical motor(inrunner motors) they are mounted to the outer shell housing. Aside from the huge torque increase, there's not much of a chance you will throw a magnet, inrunners sling mangets off the shaft limiting their RPMs. Very, very possible. There are videos of simple electric go-carts on you tube using some of this R/C equipment...imagine if it were scaled up! The Tesla electric sports is just the beginning.

I wonder how or if they will address this hybrid concept with the RT? That's a big guy, basically 1000 pounds unloaded. Again, lots for these guys to think about. So don't touch that dial!

I'm gong to be politically incorrect here and just say it... I like having a bad-@ss motor in my bike. The sound and fury of the engine, the smells, the shifting, the braking, the art of riding. I'm just not sure a hybrid would deliver the same experience. But if they do roll something out, I would be willing to try it just to see. I am skeptical, however.

I would rather run a bike with a new generation engine running hydrogen fuel. But again, that's just me.

:agree: If I wanted to be driving around in an electrc golf-cart, I'd be wearing silly-looking pants! :roflblack:

Triple WD is the way to go! Doesn’t have anything to do with Triple H's (Oderint Dum Metuant = Let them hate (me) so long as they fear (me). It was a popular motto of Caligula and some of the other Roman emperors.)... :D

A trailer hitch and a tow behind trailer for all the batteries will now come standard. New price tag: $49,995 for the RS. :roflblack::roflblack::roflblack:

I like the sound of my loud pipe and engine too--- but the electric version very well could take the gas version in 0-60. Problem with all electric would be range-- perhaps why hybrid is the idea.

I don't believe the article said anything about actually bringing this to market---- sounds more like doing it just because they can.

...Triple WD is the way to go!
You know... Can Am has a one litre Vee-Twin in their Comander UTV that is 4wd... What if they took THAT enigine with the extra output shafts and stuffed the whole mess into the Spyder chassis with some extra drivetrain parts up front sending the power out into the "Y"??

Y-not?? :roflblack:
