Cal Sci Windshield review

Finally, today, Monday @ 2:00pm I received an answer via email. Not what I expected.

So, Mark, since you are reading my posts, what are you saying, Your windshields are hazy and a replacement will not cure the problem? Keep your money. You need it for more R&D.

So you are not sending the windshield for a refund? Seems like no matter what, you want to have the final word. I had a CalSci windshield on our old 2008 SE5 that I rode for 43,000 miles. The shield never lost it's clarity and stability. The unique cutout virtually eliminated any turbulence for my wife and I and we rode that amount of miles in 23 months.

So. I am 5"-11". Which one do I order. I want to see "over" the windshield in the down position and thru in the up position.

I liked your second response better. I think this whole discussion will make your sales better. Buyers will know what to expect and may not be as anal as I am...lol

Now, about that R&D...I remember my Dad saying something like, "We can put a man on the moon but can't make a windshield with perfect clarity.


You know, if I lower the windshield a few inches it is perfectly clear looking over the top.

I bought the XL and it is the same height as the OEM but wider mostly at the top. 6'2''

When traveling through Central California, it can be extremely windy. I put the OEM all the way down to improve RT stability in these cross winds.

How does the wide windshield perform in these winds?

My Calsci large came today...I installed it and unfortunately have to send it back since it's about an inch higher up than I was hoping for (at full down) and it's splitting my line of sight. I called Mark and no questions asked he said to send it back and he'd exchange for a medium.
I was impressed with the product. He includes a bottle of cleaner and a microfiber towel. The windshield is shipped inside a microfiber bag. IMO, the optics and clarity are excellent. I've installed several aircraft plexi windshields and there are normally distortions on the bends. There were none on the curves of this windscreen. Once cleaned, the clarity was better than OEM.

Calsci

I'm 5' 11" with a 31" inseam. I received my XL Calsci today and all I can say is:


WOW, WOW and WOW!


I love this windshield! I probably would have been satisfied with the large but decided at the last minute to get the XL since I sit on a seat pad.


You owe it to yourself and your passenger to get a Calsci.

I received my Calsci XL windshield last week, I'M 6'4", installed it quickly, cleaned it up, and it is GREAT

I still get a little buffeting across the top of my head (which is fine) but the major difference between the stock windshield and the Calsci windshield:

1) stock windshield: when the wind picks up, you and your ryde feel the buffeting and back draft (or whatever its called)

2) Calsci windshield: when the wind pickS up, only your ryde feels it, I am NOT being tossed around on my seat - its a weird feeling at first, but then it becomes normal....

Curious what wasn't perfect to make you order the smaller LG shield? Teddy & I ryde year round and in ALL weather conditions and climates including rain and snow and I've been thinking of ordering one, but not sure which size would be best for our ryding needs. Thats what makes me curious why you decided to switch sizes? :dontknow::hun:

I've been riding since 1965 and 70% of my riding has been behind sport bike type windshields. The other 30% has been with no windshield. Riding our Spyder RT Limited is a new experience and I was not sure at all about looking through a windshield and driving. I have gotten somewhat used to it now but just in case I wanted that option of having a shorter windshield. And besides that, I am now a sucker for windshields. For my 2012 HD Street Glide I have six different windshields.

I used the LG one for about 1,000 miles and really like it. But when we went up to Kentucky this past weekend I put the XL back on and must admit I actually liked it even more than the first time I rode with it.

So now I've got a spare and that is okay. They are easy to change out. Soon I will also have a F4 windshield to try and will report back on how I like it.

If you are interested in my LG windshield let me know and I'll make you a good deal on it.

I am wondering if any of you feel that you are warmer or cooler riding with the wider CalSci shield? Does the added width block more air flow making you hotter? Or does the vent allow a cooling breeze? I ride with my stock shield in the lowest position always - even in the rain as I prefer to look over not through it so I'm thinking of ordering the tinted shorty.

In the summer I found the added width, kept the wind off of me and kept my cooling vest wet longer. There's less wind on the arms too. That may or may not be preferred by some. It should be a huge plus in the cold. With the drop in turbulence, you feel a light breeze, instead of a pounding and way quieter too. Can't comment on the shorty.

Cal Sci Shorty

Ordered the shorty tinted windshield last Friday and it came today. Installed it and was pleased with the looks. Its got a little
attitude. Might be a little short for most but easily changed out for stock one for highway trips. Hoping riding with it will be enjoyable

I've got the tinted shorty on mine and it doesn't seem to make it any warmer. I still ride in a wind breaker down to 50 degrees, so it still keeps a bin h of wind off you.

I wish they would develop a deflector for the hole in the front so I can adjust it to direct more air at me when I want it. This windshield is what the Spyders should all come with as OEM. It has truly exceeded all my expectations. I am actually looking forward to winter riding with the added wind protection!

Today we had the first opportunity to try the CalSci with 2-up riding. My wife gives it a big :2thumbs:. No head bobble and a much quieter ride. A significant improvement!

Size preferences

We just installed our Cal Sci this past weekend and road the coast and across a severely windy (windmill) road. I find the shield to have significantly decreased the turbulence and front end stability. I am 6'3" and ordered the xl on out RT with custom seat. I don't like riding and looking through the windshield unless the weather is wet or real cold. It was both on Sunday morning and we were real happy. So, I will use the XL this winter but will get a L in the spring. I can see over the top of the XL but can't lower it enough to really get a good view and feel. Just my experience and preference in terms of size but in terms of a better ride - I find the difference on freeways (2-4 lanes) and wind to be very significant.

Very interesting thread.. I was thinking of this as my next mod. I am short so I look through the windshield all the time but would like to work on the turbulence and a little wider would be nice. Keep the posts coming so I can make an informed decision. Thanks:clap::clap:

This is what I posted on Monday 26,2012:

The UPS guy delivered my Cal Sci windshield today. I took my sport/touring windshield off my 2011 RS-S and pack it away for the winter. I unpacked the windshield and it did not fit due to it was not finished. The sides was loaded with some heavy tool marks and not squared off. Tomorrow I'll waste a day finishing and fitting. But I am going to leave the tool marks and rough edges to show everyone what poor quality work Cal Sci did for me.

On the hazy look. My BRP sport/touring windshield is clearer than the Cal Sci. I knew that before I order my Cal Sci windshield, because it just for winter riding.
