• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Heard back from Cal Sci

Finally, today, Monday @ 2:00pm I received an answer via email. Not what I expected.

And, I quote,

Send it back, we'll refund your money.

So, Mark, since you are reading my posts, what are you saying, Your windshields are hazy and a replacement will not cure the problem? Keep your money. You need it for more R&D.

I ordered one and it shipped today......... i really dont want to have to send it back..........
 
Why not let them sort this out in someplace other than a public forum... :shocked:

Tinted Shorty

I have the tinted shorty on mine. I have about 400 miles with it on now, no problems at all. Mine had a plastic film on it when I got it, once I removed that, I cleaned both sides with the soft cloth and cleaner that came with the winshield. That took care of any residue from the manufacturing process that may have still been around. Mine seems to be holding up to the IL bugs very well and there is no issue with the clarity. It isn't as clear as the stock shield... becasuse it is tinted.;)

Ditto for me---I've got one on the way. With most folks getting shorty and mediums, they are looking over them and clarity issues may not be that noticeable to them. However these same materials are in use on many other motorcycle windshields made by them so it's doubtful this is a huge problem.
Bob, one of the real values of forums is people's opinions on products and services. I would hope we all know to take individual opinions with a grain of salt. Still, I'd rather see them and decide on my own. Reading Mark's site, it's obvious that he's very customer service oriented and has excellent policies. He's willing to refund with no questions, you can exchange or have it custom cut, can't ask for much more than that. I emailed him that his sizing chart was wrong, at first he was a bit brusque BUT once he figured out that he used a 2010 RT windscreen for initial measurement and that 2011 and 2012s are 1.5" shorter he posted that on 2 forums. Seems to be a good person to work with.
 
I'm saying a guy that likes to negotiate in public and takes his bike routinely to be professionally detailed and is looking for absolute show perfection will be happier with some other windshield.

There are very few plastics available that are DOT certified, and all have compromises. I've chosen a particular formulation that is known to turn a very light blue at temperatures below about 40 degrees, then clear up when it warms up. It's known to have a very slight optical haze in direct sunlight. It's also the strongest, stiffest, lightest and safest DOT plastic I can buy. I then make it with superlative aerodynamics, and I'm very confident no windshield produces a quieter or more turbulence free ride than mine. And you'll notice that several of my customers have spoken up here saying that when the shield is clean it's perfectly acceptably clear to the rider.

But if you don't care about aerodynamics, noise and turbulence; if you don't care about stiffness in truck wakes or side winds; if you don't care about weight; all you care about is "perfect" optical clarity; then you will be happier with an F4 customs or a stock shield. And if that's what you want, then I encourage you to send back your Calsci windshield for a full refund and get what will make you happy. I don't need or want unhappy customers.

I don't make windshields for show bikes. I make windshields for long distance touring comfort. If I were making show windshields I would definitely choose a different plastic from a different supplier which has about 1% better optical clarity, has no optical temperature effects in the 20 degree to 120 degree range, is about 50% heavier, has about half the stiffness and a third the impact resistance, and can be easily polished to a show level of perfection. I even have some of that plastic in stock. But it's not my engineering choice for long distance touring due to considerations of stiffness, weight, and safety.

But you don't have to agree with me. You get to decide for yourself what's important to you. Then buy what makes you happy. And if my shield doesn't make you happy, please, seriously, please send it back.

I now have two of the Cal Sci windshields, 1 XL and 1 LG, and neither one of them has any kind of a haze problem. Once I cleaned them with the included cleaner they look great. No problems.

I've looked through my medium without issues and as mentioned don't notice any haze looking through it, with or without my helmet shield. There's been no reason for me to look through it, since it's so quiet and there's so little turbulence. Maybe in the winter, I'll change my mind. Just like the CalSci website says, the image doesn't bend around the edges of the windshield, so that goes a long way for added clarity.

Love the windshield Mark. The difference is night and day. You'll never get mine back. :thumbup::thumbup:

thanks for restoring my faith and decision in ordering

Im 6'4", 34 inseam and ordered the XL
I ordered the Calsci based on all the reviews regarding how it improves the ride

with the stock shield all the way up, I still get a lot of buffeting on and around my head and look forward to less turbulence, and based on what ive read in other threads the Calsci appears the way to go

I'm 6' 2" with a 32" inseam. I have only started riding with the LG one. But I will say that the XL one was dang near perfect.

I could put the windshield all the way down and see over it just fine. Could move it all the way up and look through it with excellent viewing. Wife seemed to like it all the way up. I tend to vary the height on mine as the riding conditions change. On the back roads of Tennessee I like it lowered so I can look over the top of it.

More later after I've ridden with the LG one.

Curious what wasn't perfect to make you order the smaller LG shield? Teddy & I ryde year round and in ALL weather conditions and climates including rain and snow and I've been thinking of ordering one, but not sure which size would be best for our ryding needs. Thats what makes me curious why you decided to switch sizes? :dontknow::hun:
