Burning Rubber Smell

My 2016 Spyder F3-T has about 1300 miles on it. After a ride, when I park it in the garage, I get what smells like burning rubber. Not too strong, but definitely noticeable. I thought maybe it was just "newness" burning off. I am wondering if the belt is misaligned, but I don't see any fraying on the edges. Any ideas or thoughts??

Spyder Deb has a similar issue but is usually caused by rapid wrist motion on the throttle :yikes:

Do you have a female companion with heels melting on the pipe...:roflblack: have seen that a few times. But you would have to sniff it out like a hound dog. You may have to remove some plastic and see if there is anything loose and close to the pipes. But if not major give it some time if it gets worse have it checked out. Belt would not do that has to be more on the rubber (hoses, wiring etc) hitting the pipes. You could have picked something up like a plastic bag and it is stuck to the manifold....:dontknow:

How's the belt alignment on your rear sprocket???????? If there is NO gap(1-2 credit cards) the belt could be rubbing the flange giving you the burning smell. It also makes the inner rear wheel dirty.

I get the same burning smell on my F3s. I noticed my belt does touch the inner sprocket flange and my inner rear wheel gets dirty. I'll have to adjust the belt alignment one of these days.

I'm a newbie to spyders and to forums, so bear with me. About 6 weeks ago I purchased an F3-T with 3700 miles on it and also noticed the burning smell of rubber. I have put over 3000 miles on (can you tell I love it ) and still get the odor every now and then, but no other symptoms. I've just been waiting it out, but not sure that is the answer.

It is actually road dirt and debri that get thrown onto the hot Catilytic converter under the bike. I have solved this by wrapping my cat in heat sheilding. You could also do a cat delete and the smell will go away. Its not the belt or the tire. Nothing to really worry about.

You don't KNOW that without being there.
There can be several causes, most of which are "normal" but some might require attention.

And I don't think the wrap you put on the CAT is a good idea either.
They are designed to get quite HOT but your insulation might cause it to get way TOO hot and cause a problem.
Usually they NEED to have some ventilation.

As for the OP, I noticed that the first couple of rides with mine but now it's gone away, as far as I can tell so I figure mine was just things "burning in" from being new. If it continues, I think you should go for a nice fairly long ride that ends at the dealership so one of their mechanics can give it a quick sniff and look while the smell is present.

My bike has over 13,000 miles and it still smells of burning rubber when I put it my garage. Nothing wrong with it, no issues at all.

Rubber Smell comes front sprocket!!!

I 'm pretty sure the rubber smell odor comes from the front sprocket...Could you checked it on your bike ?

Sorry can't resist. "Burning rubber smell" reminds me of the 80yr old fellow that went to the brothel and as they were handing out free "protection" the old man said "no thanks... can't stand the smell of burning rubber"

I took the Spyder in for some work. Tech says that the smell is not a problem. Everything checks out OK. It may be some of the protective coating they apply to the pipes burning off. It seems to have diminished some, so I am not going to worry about it.

I also experience a burning rubber smell from time to time from my F3-S

2016 F3T SM6, (2700 miles) I washed my bike a few weeks back and since then I can smell the burning rubber. Before that did not have any issue. Might be an coincidence. Did not power-wash, just used a garden hose. Not sure if its a real issue or like other's have done do I have to just wait it off or get used to it?
Might be another feature.

My Daytona had that initially, but as the miles mounted it has went away for the most part. Belt is correctly aligned 2-3 mm away from rear flange. Working on 17k now.

I believe its coming off the cat my stopped smelling like rubber after a ride when I removed the cat

I have a 2017 F3T with about 2000 miles on it that has this issue too. My mechanic says it will eventually go away.
