• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. BRP's changes for 2013

So while I was toddling around the showroom; waiting for my RT's servicing to be completed, I did some serious poking around on the 2013 models... I noticed that they've removed those air deflectors that they used to have on all of the 2012 and prior models... Do you think that this is how they've changed the airflow patterns around the bikes? Will this help with the heat coming off the radiators and boiling the hide off of some of us? Is it worth cutting those defelctors off of our older bikes?? :dontknow:

What ones are you talking about? I was just looking at them today as well and I am not sure what ones you are talking about.

 I'm sorry! :opps: I thought that I had mentioned where they are (were! It's the ones that are down on the a-arm covers...The Grand Finale 010.jpg03-30-2013 003.jpg

I have the 2013 RT Limited and I can tell you the heat issue on the right is not an issue on mine. The 2012 I test drove was killer heat on the leg and feet but on mine I do not have this issue.

Not sure what they did but I like it.. :)

They're only $17 a pair. if you want them, get them. lol
The new ones won't fit on the older RTs; the A-arms are shorter now...

Maybe you should carefully cut them off and then report back as to the benefits???:yikes::roflblack:
I'm thinking about doing just that... thinking about it! trying to gather up the courage to take a saw to them...

We just had a member report their 2013 was way hotter than their 2011. Looks like the elusive heat issue plaguing only some machines persists. :(

What we may need here; is for one of our members who has had issues with the heat to perhaps try removing their A-arm covers and let us know if it helps... At least it's not permanent!

Well I live in the south, have a 2012 RT and don't have the heat issues. Does the fact I am only 5'3" have anything to do with it? I think it's a size thing. If you're tall you probably get in the way of the exit vent.

Im kind of partical to the a arm covers with the fin i wouldent suggest cutting them off there must be a reason they have them on there, The 13 modles may have some other tweaks so they werent needed.

Maybe we can talk someone into some test runs with and without them; noting the temperature gauge readings along the way... :dontknow:

I just can't see how not diverting cooler air to the radiator would reduce the heat! I took a look at the 2013s yesterday and the A arms are so short, there isn't much room for fins. To me, it seemed the radiator opening was a bit larger. Not sure, I didn't have a way to measure. Did like the look of the shorter A arms and the angle on the shocks. Looks much more stout. What I forgot to check was if BRP finally figured out the rear valve stem was on the wrong side. Hope they got that right for 2013.

Perhaps by allowing more air to pass by "through" the A-arms; it is cooling the air off that flows through the radiators and dumping out onto the rider's legs... :dontknow: (Just a wild guess on my part)

Thanks for the schematic!  I guess that maybe we need a little bit more investigation as to the differences from 2012 (and prior :D), and the new2013 bikes. Close attention will be needed to the intakes at the front and sides! :2thumbs:
