• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

BRP tech worked on Spyder today

Did they say what they thought it was on yours? Are they ordering another part or what? I know on mine they thought the new dps they just put on it was bad also and that is what they ordered to try next.

I am in the EXACT situation you are in. :dontknow::banghead::banghead::banghead:

There is no update - still not working. But they are working on it. And through all this mess, I really see that they are trying to resolve this. They don't want anyone to get hurt.

nojoke

I'm a little confused, you said they couldn't find an issue but where just going to replace the dps with a "new and improved" one. What do you mean it did not work???

I hope when they do find out what is wrong it is not replace only when there is an issue. It better be that everyone gets the replacement

Pitmon... is it required...

that you take it back to where you purchased it? I go to Lake City and they seem to be pretty good. That is a lot closer to you isn't it? I take the 09 that I bought there and the two used units I bought from individuals to them also. Or have you seen something there that I haven't? /Ken

The new DPS didn't work. As of now, I have no power steering (maybe that is a good thing?) so it will stay there until brp can figure it out. Believe me, I'm confused too. I am no expert but I am thinking it is NOT the dps causing this. I think it's something else causing the DPS not to work unless they made a bad batch of dps's on the production line.:dontknow: I am sure once they figure out what it is, everyone's steering problems will get fixed.

This entire situation is getting ridiculous......:gaah:

The Shi++y Steering Club is not one I'd recomend to those not having issues. If it ain't broke-don't fix it. Just enjoy your Spyder.
Think I'll go Ryding!:D (and watch my neat little flag wave in the breeze)

Working in the dark like everyone else I've been thinking this for some time.

It is my understanding that the ECM takes input from the DPS for steering control. If the ECM quits listening to the DPS then it's going to be the same result as if the DPS quit working.

If the ECM mis-reads the DPS signal then you could get all kinds of anomalies like locked steering, etc.

Doesn't make sense to me that all of a sudden we have a rash of bad DPS units in Spyders that were previously fine.

Hang in there. You are one of the point men on this one. Once they get yours figured out I'm thinking the fix will be in for everyone else.

I TOTALLY AGREE - I am "speculating" that it's the ECM - just like you said - it's either not talking to the DPS or it's mis-reading the DPS. My DPS was working before the tech guy flew in, took it out and put another one in. Now my Spyder has no powersteering at all - they could not get it to power up. So I HAD powersteering with my OLD DPS but I had the two steering lockups. So that tells me it's NOT THE DPS when they stuck a new one in that does not work cuz my OLD one worked. I think it is the ECM not communicating w/ the DPS properly - either a software issue, a mis-wire, whatever, but I am not a gearhead. Just wish they would do this better - look at the Big picture and not one thing. Maybe they are but I don't feel assured. I have confidence in my dealer though but look who he has to answer to.

I'm getting confused and upset. I just want my Spyder back so I can ride. I didn't buy my bike outright. I have a payment plan on it - and I really can't stand making a payment on something that isn't home in my garage and working. That is really making me mad. I've tried to not say much and it is what it is but I'm worked up today - it's warm out, tomorrow is a ryding day and I can't ride. Just like others on here who can't ride due to steering issues, belt problems, spline problems, fires. :cus::mad::banghead:

Troubleshooting, with a computer thrown in, makes it tough. Is it hardware, software or a combination?

They are not only trying to fix your Spyder but also trying to pinpoint the problem. That can be two different things (with the same goal, of course).

They replaced just about every steering related hardware component on mine and finally decided it was the PS unit that was bad. They put a new PS unit in and it's worked flawlessly ever since.

BRP spent a lot of money and the dealer spent a lot of time putting new stuff on my Spyder that I probably did not need. I appreciate that a lot.

It took them about 3 weeks (or was it a month). I decided to chill and though it was frustrating at the time, I'm a happy camper now.

It tweeked Lamont a lot more than it did me that my Spyder was down for that lenght of time. But mine was one of the 1st with that particular problem. Those that came after me (with the same issue) had much shorter turn-around times.

Sometimes you just have to take one for the Gipper...I'd say this is one of those times.

Yeah, take one for the Gipper  I do that all day at work - 5 days a week. I'm always "taking one for the team". I know, I need patience. I know they are concerned - I will give them that. I just wish they'd really think through this dps thing instead of throwing a new box in. And yes, the sent a tech out - excellent on their part but if I were the tech I'd have ripped the bike apart even more besides throwing in a new box and watching it not work. Send some engineers down! If we are the "point men" then rip my bike apart and really LOOK AT IT.
