Bluetooth dongle

So in reading thru the posts on the website I see that a lot of you are using the Sena dongle instead of the Can Am I don't really know what a "dongle" is or why I might need one or what it does. Is one better then the other and why? Cheaper? What? A set of Scala Rider headsets with I assume some kind of intercom came with my Spyder but I am not sure how they work and I can't find anything on them that says which model they are.

The dongle connects to your radioon your RT and allows you to bluetooth your radio to your scala or sena on your helmet it also allows you to bluettoh the Ipod you may have connected in the back.

The BRP kit uses the Sena SM10 and a BRP cable that mounts the SM10 in the front trunk.

The option sold by Motorcycle Dave is the same thing just a different cable that mounts the SM10 in the trunk where it works better.

Yes there is you just need a male to male adapter. Every RT come with iPod and 3.5 male plug adapters. The power source for it is there too. The only draw back might be answering a phone call. Not sure how it will play with a sena but I know it works with cell phones my son has one in his car.

The plug in the spyder is a input only not an output. So music can go into that and to the radio. Nothing from the radio comes out that port.

Your device will work in you plug it into the iPod directly (not into the Spyder) and have it stream out but then you do not get the integration with the Spyder and ability to control the iPod via the dash.

Plus if your just going to bluetooth your phones radio, your phone already does bluetooth so you don't need this.

Have this in my wife's RT-S and my RT-S both using 8gig ipod 4's. Helmet unit is a Scala G9x. Phone is an HTC One M7. So with this configuration we each get radio, ipod music, phone calls, intercom, and radio from the headset.

Bought the Sena's from Amazon and a very kind gentleman made the cables with parts I had shipped to him.

Note: The default volume from the Sena is a bit weak. Quickly double-tap the pairing button and it boosts the audio.

Thanks all for your replies. I went ahead and bought sena hmc10 headsets from motorcycledave.com as well as the sena hm10 dongle and connecting wire to the radio. All works well.

Thanks Bob. You and I talked the other day. I have to work outside so I am waiting for a break in the snow and cold to get to that little project. I put and ad in the local paper for garage space but no answers yet.
