• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Blue Ridge windshield attachments

Post #4 and #5 have to do with the reason I felt the need to mod the upper supports.

http://www.spyderlovers.com/forums/...e-Ridge-Install-Question&highlight=blue+ridge

I found it too easy to just push these supports from the bike as they only clamp and really aren't secure at all. A design flaw or done purposely as a break away mount? Not sure but I didn't like it so I "fixed it" to my liking.

Pretty simple really. In the first pic, I drilled both pieces (P5 and P10 and then P5 and P11) at one time after taping them securely together. I then made up 4 threaded studs out of 3mm stainless cap head screws.

The P5 cap holes were then tapped and the 3mm studs were secured with loctite.

Assembly still as per instructions and also aligning the studs I installed in the P5 caps with the holes in the P10, P11 left and right supports.

Installation completed after securing the assemblies with the 2, P6 Torx screws. The 2 supports aren't going anywhere now.

What many people were Missing is the One half C shaped rubber washer? I Got a Full Washer Twice the thickness of the BRP Washer at Lowes and it works fine! Still it was a Poor Design for the $$$?nojoke

The rubber washers were there. I could push forward on the top of the windshield with very little force and the upper mounts would pull loose.

The Lowes washers were Twice as thick and are doing fine BUT over the winter I will do what you have done although I do not think mine would be as Nice.

Well done! Thanks for the detailed post. I really like the blind hole and not noticeable from the outside. Mine will be done over winter.

I had a conversation With BRP at Spyderfest about the blue ridge windshield as mine was not staying put.

If its coming loose from the mount by slightly bumping the shield or rough roads, its not installed properly. It requires that the person installing press down on the bracket while tightening the mount screws or else the c shape rubber washer just pushes out. Once done correctly the sandwich will stay in place.

The bracket is designed the way it is for crash survivability. Without the pull away bracket the windshield rear edge becomes a driver disembowelment scoop in the event of collision where the driver is launched forward. Sorry to be so graphic but that is exactly the way it was explained to me. Don't circumvent the break away safety feature. Mount it correctly and it stays put fine.

If you loose the c shape rubber washers, red rubber hose washers with a section cut out work fine.

I did push down on the brackets when I tightened the long P6 torx screws and the mounts would still pull up easily. I can certainly try the red rubber hose washer approach or even replace the stainless steel studs with nylon, which should not hinder the break away feature. Besides, I'm 6"4" and if I launch over the handlebars, I'm going to clear that windshield by a significant amount. :yikes: It's the landing that really matters, right? All kidding aside, I'll revisit this and make it right.

Thanks for the heads up.

I do have to question the idea of this break away feature though. My 14RTL windshield was always at it's full height and I don't believe it had any sort of break away feature. Perhaps it's because the driver sits so low in the F3? :dontknow:

Some pictures of my solution-
1- Bought a Big Thick Rubber washer at Lowes- Twice as thick as the C washer - Cut the perimeter down quite a bit.
2- Positioned it between the Round Handle and the Brace as opposed to inside the Brace.
3- Tightened the T30 "Real good" and it won't move if I pull with All my Might.
