Blinkers on front fender of 2015 F3?

Does anyone have any experience installing blinking lights on the front fender of a 2015 F3 that can be seen from the rear? Since there are no blinkers on the front fender of this model, I suspect another wire has to be run and connected somewhere.

Have you looked at TricLEDs? The sell a replacement for the red and orange reflectors.

Love them!

I have TricLED's fender lights and have them set for blinking (they alternate with the OEM blinkers.) Had a friend follow me yesterday and he said they are GREAT for visibility from behind...both the lights and the blinkers. They are not at all distracting when you are driving but I find them more convenient to glance down at (checking to see that they cancelled, etc.) than checking the dashboard. (Also, since the OEM turn signals on the rear of the F3 are so close together, the spread of blinkers on the fenders may be helpful to those behind you. ?)

And yes, there is a "blinker module" you have to buy to get the blinker activated.

P.S. - I originally thought to add the lights after following Copperman's RT and seeing just how much visibility from behind that add. (Thanks, Jerry!).

Good info. I find the dash lights to be nearly invisible in bright lights, so I can't see if the blinkers are still on or not.

TricLED is the way to go

I agree with the others. I have a F3 S and was at TricLED in Davie, Florida last Thursday finishing up light work done which included the fender rear lighting. As others said lights are now about 18 inches outboard of the frame, great for safety. There are only 10 LED lights in each so not a distraction. I drove home to Clearwater from Reggy's at night and the lights were not noticeable unless I looked down to the left or right. And I do this occasionally now because it is difficult to see if the signal cancelled on bright sunny days. In a nanosecond I can know whether blinker is on or cancelled. A great unanticipated benefit. And I need to give Reggy a shout out. He told me that he had a surprise for me that I had not yet seen. It turned out to be the foglight rings which switch to amber with the turn signal. These look great with the A arm lights which also flash amber with turn signal. And as if that wasn't enough he replaced my non blinking amber fender sidelights with his which do blink. Also gratis. What a great feeling to deal with someone with whom you do not have to question his fairness and integrity.

Thanks for the comments everybody. I have been in touch with TricLed and was told that the blinker module does not work with my 2015 F3. There is no blinking lead to lights on my fenders. There is only a front driving light on each fender. I'm sure there must be a way. I'm beginning to think that I need to go to a rally and ask for installation. Maybe there's somebody out there that has done the installation on this model and maybe (I'm guessing) run a wire from the front blinkers on the mirrors or something to the fenders.

And it's important that any LEDs on the front fenders blink. People behind me may be focused on the LEDs on the fenders and if I make a turn, they might not see my rear blinker blinking if that's all that blinks.

Yes, it does work.

Unfortunately, I have no idea how the tech did it, but my dealer's Spyder mechanic installed the rear-facing LED lights with blinkers on the front fenders of my 2015 F3 and they're on and working great. I assume he followed the instructions that came with the TricLED package.

Be sure that the person you're talking to isn't referring to the side lights that you can get for the REAR fender...those, I believe, can't be blinkers.

Anyway, I wish I had the competence level to tell you how he installed them, but turning the ignition key is about the extent of my technical knowledge. :dontknow:

Thanks Slagiatt! I think I'll talk to my dealer!

There is no reason, as long as your bike has turn signals, that you couldn't make them work. It is just a matter of wiring. If the load is too much, usually a canbus issue if used, then relays could be used. It isn't genius level wiring at all. Since the LED replacements exist for the fenders, it should be quite simple. Certainly I have done it on several other motorcycles, no reason this bike should be any different.

(Note I am NOT telling anyone to do this who is not competent, just saying it could be done!)

F3 S must have different wiring than F3

My error assuming F3 and F3 S were the same. But I'm sure someone has a fitment for you. I'm glad you are continuing to follow up on this. I am a new rider, 4 months. I live in the most densely populated county in Florida. With each passing day my comfort level increases knowing I have the fender rear blinkers. This is especially true in fast moving congested traffic, where I learned in my trike class that I have to assess several different factors at the same time. And those of us who have dealt with TricLED know how great Cindy and Reggy are, but let's not forget about Nestor who knows how to do these installations in his sleep. He is a great member of the TricLED team.

Apologies if.....

Just to clarify, my Spyder is an F3S, not an F3. If that makes a difference in factory wiring on the front fenders, I wasn't aware when I made my previous post. :opps:

Best of luck with this mod.

The wiring to both F3 and F3S fenders is the same. Its the rounded fenders on the base model that do not have the side and rear reflectors to be replaced with LED versions.

Jcthorne: I have the 2015 F3 base model. It has a yellow reflector on the side of the fender and a red reflector on the back of each fender. It also has the one white indicator light on the front of each fender as you can see on my posts. To my limited knowledge, I only have a power lead to the front indicator light. So then, if the wiring to "both F3 and FS fenders is the same," do I have a directional signal wire at the fender that is capped off and all I need to do is connect LEDs to it to blink? If so, that is great news.

No

There is no turn signal wire in the fender of ANY Spyder. Not F3, RT, ST or RS. Running lights ONLY.

Here's the answer I got from TricLed:

Hi John, unfortunately for that fender model , we don’t have any LED and module that would make it blink.
The LED that will fit base fender model is our TricFenderz, its strip of light with dual color, either white or Amber towards the front and red towards the back, but it won’t blink.

Sincerely,
Cindy

Makes ya wonder......

Yes
They offer a light strip that fits the groove on the top of the rounded fenders. They do not offer a blink module for it. Even for the newer style fenders which use the LED replacements for the reflectors, they supply a blink module but it must be wired to the turn signals in the mirrors. The wiring is not present in the fenders.
