Best type of trailer for RT?

Here's what I finally came up with. 6' X 10' utility trailer. Drop axel, gorrilla tailgate assistance, hand winch (hopefully will never have to use), two strips angle iron for front wheel placement and marking spyder position, front end jacks to raise front end and lower back end for loading.

I built this 6X10 trailer specifically for my RS....works great. It's very similar to a lot of landscape trailers out there.:f_spider:

VERY NICE! :2thumbs:

I am curious on how easy the build was, how much, and what you used.

We are currently using a 5x9 aluminum mesh ATV trailer with a drop gate, no tilt. It requires some trickiness to get the Spyder loaded with the steep ramp and it just barely clears on both sides where the drop gate locks when in the upright position. My trailer weighs 300# and pulls well behind our HHR 4-cyclinder hatchback... which is why I chose this trailer.

We don't use the trailer a lot, but it has come up. Once we had to trailer it back home when the battery died and it wouldn't restart. We were only 2 miles from home and the tow company wanted $145 to tow the Spyder 2 miles! :yikes: I told them I'd push it home instead! nojoke

We had someone come get us and take us home to get the car and the trailer.

Thanks SpyderGirl ;),
building this for me wasn't too difficult as I'm experienced in metalwork and welding.

The frame and crossmembers are 2"x3"x3/16" angle
uprights and railing are 2"x2"x1/8" angle
tongue is 2 1/2"x 3/16"x60" square tube
decking is 2"x6"
and the axle is rated at 2000 lbs with 12" tires. (frame is also strong enough for a 3500 lb axle if you choose)

It weighs around 500 lbs and cost me close to $600 cdn to build. :f_spider:

It took about six weeks to build. It was custom made. I would think that it could be built in a much shorter time, but my guy was busy. The cost was just short of $2,400.00. He used some pretty heavy duty materials instead of what is used in your normal utility trailers you see. The weight is around 800 lbs. I have no difficulty loading. With that said I don't go up it at break neck speed either. I have about 4 1/2 inches on each side entering. There's probably a foot in the back and at least six inches in the front.

I have an Infinity FX-35 which has some "A_S" to it. I'm sure my gas mileage won't be all that great towing. I had the trailer built EXACTLY for the reason you listed. I want something that I can tow my spyder in case of an emergency. I also don't want to be stuck in E.B.F.E. and not have a way to get it home.

Hope this helps.

Well, I'm not so handy when it comes to welding or metal fabrication so I'll just stick with what I've got. And it's lightweight which is what I need to pull it with my little 4 cylinder car.

It serves me well the couple times a year I use it. I actually keep thinking about selling it. I don't know. I'd hate to not have it if I need it.

I have an Express 6X12 inclosed trailer. The Spyder RTS fits thru the ramp door with 1/2 inch on each side. That is with wrapping the assist wires off to the side for more room. Go for a 7 ft wide one just to be safe.

I have a Legend 7X19 (16 foot square) V-nose all aluminum trailer. Spyder fits easily, doesn't hit the crest of the ramp and I still have room for 2 other bikes (BMW,Harley). Here's a picture (if I did it right) of the Spyder loaded and the Chock mounted to load a 2 wheeler.
