Hi Guy's: I have 2 Ryker 600's. We are considering the K & N air filters for both. Besides the benefit of not having to buy filters what other benefits are there?

There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Not unlike Corbin saddles and several other personal choice items, there's a long standing love hate relationship on whether K & N filters are a good choice.

It's generally one of the first changes I make. Be it car, bike or truck. Been using K&N since 1969 and have not one sour thing to say about them.

I use them on any vehicle I plan to keep. Usually put one in when the original air filter is due for a change. Easy to clean and reoil.
I have used K&N filters and they are ok.
Call me lazy but I have found its just as expensive and messy to clean them rather than just replace.
They will also clog up some throttle body sensors if you leave to much oil on them.
So in the end I just use the dry paper filters the factory recommends, after all they don't need changing that often.

I have never really noticed any benefit, other then not having to buy overpriced paper filters. And on dirt bikes not having to worry about filter break down from water.

On Spyders especially - any increased air flow will be cancelled / and or corrected by the computer ….. EXCEPT if you had the ECU done ….. as others have said it's one & done …. so it saves money, a BRP filter is the same $ or more ….. jmho …. Mike

A filter will not give you more power if that is what you think... it just can't. But... that is a slippery slope (because of all the opinions out there) and I'll leave it at that.
If you want K&N... get K&N... as long as you enjoy it, who cares?

Me too. They let through substantially more micro dust particles. And they're noisy.

I had a mechanic (can't remember who) tell me about installing a K&N on one of my vehicles (can't remember which one). He said increased air flow=less filtration. Not trying to create controversy. Just pointing out that there are lots of opinions. Do whatever makes you feel good..... Jim

They are old school filters we used to use in 2 stroke Jet Skies in the 90,s. Most novices WILL over oil just like they OVER torque bolts? You can get basically 3 Paper Filters above for the cost of ONE K&N. Choice is yours?

I tried K/N in both of our vehicles with no noticeable benefit, and the fitment in one of them was not real good. So, quality paper filters are my go to. I don't wanna mess with cleaning/drying/oiling a filter. I wanna change it in 5 minutes and be good to go again, with the same performance. Spend it if ya got it, spend the time if ya got it, monkey with the mess if ya wanna. Tried it and didn't care for it. Ya don't know til ya try though.

I use them in all my vehicles. I've never had a problem caused by them. Buy once and done. Cleaning and recharging is not difficult, if you can follow directions. I'll continue to use until someone can convince me they are inadequate and harmful to an engine. Mine have all fit as well as OEM. I've never encountered a fitment problem. But like everything, everyone enjoys different flavors when it comes to cupcakes and air filters!
Read the K&N instructions and benefits. Their filter doesn't provide performance until 6k RPM is reached. My wife's cars have never reached 6k RPM in their lives, which is around 350k miles each. 350k life span on an engine is not bad if it still passes smog. I have K&N's on all my vehicles and have used them for many years. The primary benefit of K&N's for me is that they are reusable if directions are properly followed . Saves $$$$.
