Belt Replacement

On my recent visit to the dealer they mentioned that the belt on the F3 L was looking a bit worn. I am going in for a 18000 mile service today and am expecting them to tell me they want to replacement. I know labor charges in California are a bit higher than some other areas, but what would something likely cost? Just curious.

Thanks,

What kind of wear are they describing? I just had my left side plastic off doing other maintenance at 28K and specifically a belt check for Red Rocks trip; everything fine.

Put 57K on my 2010 RT with no problem. Now have 33K on the 2014 RT with no problem. I would think that unless you really do some screaming tire spinning take offs, your belt should not be worn. I would get a second opinion from another dealer before replacing it unnecessarily.

My RT belt tore in WA riding home from Canada, last week. It cost $745: $299 for the belt and 4 hours shop time.

WORN OUT BELT ??????

Since 2012, I think I've read 99% of the threads and posts here ... I don't remember reading about anyone having a worn belt at anywhere near that low mileage.... IF - IF your dealer isn't lying to you then something is really out of alignment and tension with that belt. Spyderjim has over130,000 on His GS and I'm pretty sure it's the orig. belt .... ask SpyderAnn about belt life ( She racks up the miles also ) ... I've got 34,000 + on my RT - belt looks great ....... good luck .... Mike

:agree: We've got a few Spyders here in Aust with over 100,000km, a lot of that on marginal roads, & yet they are still running their original belts.... & there are a heap of other bike makes running similar belts & distances without any 'belt wear' issues!! Yeah, a few might put a pebble or gravel chip thru the belt & need to replace it, but I don't know of anyone here who's had to replace a belt due to wear short of something like 160,000km/100,000 miles or so, & even then, it's only been a few... very few!! Something really doesn't smell right.... :dontknow:

I'm with them

Your belt should be fine unless you have other problems. The only belt changes this early on are damage related to rocks or other debris picked up. I would check with another dealer or check it yourself with the information available online or manuals.

I replaced two belts. One had major rock damage and the other was broken by a rock.

Both were in the $280 for the belt and $200 or so for the labor. I did not get a quote on time--but this price represented a couple hours back in 2011.

28K plus miles on both current spyders. No belt replacement needed. As many have said--unless noticeable damage--you should be good for up to 100,000 miles or so.

Thanks,
BRP has designed the belts for 100,000 + mile life.

I've got 122,000 on the 14 RT and it still has the original belt. They're trying to upsell you. You don't have a BRP tensioner on it do you?
