There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Belt problem

Had a strange noise in spyder. Dealer says the belt if badly worn. Only 13000 miles. Any one else had this problem and what was the cause. Had in to same dealer for 6000 mile service and no mention of any belt problem then.

Not many miles for a belt to wear out,
What did your dealer say might have caused it to wear so soon.

:agree: That's pretty darn quick to wear out a belt... If it is worn that badly, there should be a reason behind it: tension, alignment, damage from road hazards, riding in very dusty conditions maybe? :dontknow:
I know that the manual shows some pretty good examples in it of belt damage... Maybe you should take a good look at it yourself to get an idea of what's been going on down there. Let us iknow what you find...Good luck!

Bad belt, not aligned correctly, too much tension, too little tension, rock caught in it...... a few possibilities...

Make sure they pull the front Sprocket and check the splines for wear-- and re-torque to spec and also make sure they are using the newest belt tension spec so it's not too tight.

Are they covering it under warranty?

Good luck!

We can speculate all day But until the OP comes back with more info  we are all just blowing smoke.
His dealer may or may NOT have an plausible reason for a belt to ware out so soon.:dontknow:

No word yet. They have to talk to BRP. Said the sprocket and other parts are worn. Also reminded me that BRP says you have to replace rear bearings at 12000 miles. Can't belive they can not manufacture a bearing that last longer then 12000 miles. I was in trucking business and trucks go 50 - 60 thousand miles and no new bearings. This is a real jole.

Spyder Bearings/Belt

Yes Suds you are correct, it is a joke, it's too bad Can Am is the only company building these. I think everytime I ride the Spyder, how much would it take to transplant my BMW engine/drivetrain? I have never had any adjustments needed on the shaft drive, if Honda or BMW started building these type machines Can Am would be out of production within two years. Good Luck getting this problem solved.

Honda and BMW both build good stuff. I've still got a BMW sitting in my garage along with 2 Honda dirt bikes. I never liked the way Honda street bikes rode but that's just me, certainly not a criticism of Honda. With all that going for them, I wonder why neither company has built a 2 up front reverse trike. Could it be that they just didn't want to spend the money on the R & D? Maybe, realizing the inherent dangers of 3 wheel machines (unlike 2 wheelers, they always spit you off the high side if you crash and they may wind up on top of you), they didn't want to risk the liability. Maybe they realized that, with the additional weight and side loading forces, few of their existing drive trains would be usable. Who knows? In any case, BRP spent the money, did the R & D, merged the necessary software, and created a product which, while it may not be perfect, does a very respectable job. Personally, I'm glad they did. I haven't had many problems with my RT but, between my dealer and BRP, they've fixed them all and they did it gladly and always with my satisfaction in mind.

One more question. I don't know what BMW you ride but if it's an R bike or a K bike with their well known rear drive bearing problems, do you really want to transplant that drivetrain into a bike which exerts tremendously more side forces onto those bearings? I wouldn't. That's not a criticism of BMW's, I loved the ones I rode and would still be riding them except for advancing age and short legs. It's just a fact. BMW, Honda, Can-Am Spyders, they all have their own problems and always will. But there is a reason that BMW and Honda isn't in the 2 up front reverse trike business.
