• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Been searching and can't find info about recommended oil....

...so I don't have to buy BRP. My dealer is also 40 miles away... if I want to buy a synthetic oil what kind, type, weight, specs, should I buy? I saw that many use Amsoil, Valvoline, Castrol, and others but I am new to Spyders (2010 RT SM5) and want to be sure to get the right kind. I am not trying to start a "the oil I use is the best one" kind of debate - I just want a few options so I can find one locally.

I use and recommend Valvoline 4 T stroke ( for motorcycles in Silver container ) four qts-10w/40 with one qt.20w/50 for added viscosity. This is Full Syn Oil and has the lowest Moly behind Amsoil, but it sells for a lot less ......on-line @ Walmart......... Mike :thumbup:
 
All in the spec's

I order my oil Kits on line .... and have a dealer 2 miles away. :yikes: Better deals on the kits and they come with everything I need for the oil change. But as long as you get oil that meets the spec's in the manual you are good to go...but I don't think you will find the filters anywhere but dealers or online....:banghead:
 
I also have the 2010 RT SM5, and I've had good luck using Shell's Rotella T-6, 5W-40. It's readily available and at a good price. I get filters from BajaRon, or from my dealer.

......I'm 99.99% sure that you aren't supposed to use the Rotella in the 998 engine !!!!!! :gaah:........ only the 1330 ...... Mike :thumbup:
 
The Rotella T6 synthetic is JASO-MA rated for wet clutches. I am using it and Charlotte is doing well,in fact seems to have cut down on oil consumption. Where did you get your information Mike as I have seen you to seldom be wrong?

I have seen JC Thorne state what I did above ( the link you posted above has His statements )....... My oil changes with my 998 didn't involve Rotella as a choice at the time......So if it's WRONG info - that's where I got it ...... Mike :thumbup:............PS - I just came from the Shell oil Rotella T-6 site ....according to Shell the T-6 Full Syn oil is rated as ....MA .... & the Jaso is DH-2 ......not Ma2 ....... I won't use it in the 990-998 engine

The JASO does say DH-2 but it also says coma MA. So it does have a JASO MA rating. I am currently using it in my 998. I also have several cases of Valvoline T4 synthetic that I will use. Whatever is closest on the shelf whe oil change time comes around again,probably about 3 weeks.

Look if you want to get all the right stuff for an oil change go to the home page and click on the Bajaron web link. He knows Spyders and he will insure that you get all the right stuff including good advice.

Sure....ebay oil kits for can am spyders...I search for best price free shipping and it usually comes from dealers from around the US...
