Balancing Beads ... disappointment

I realize there has been a previous discussion on this subject, but I just want to add my two cents. I am highly disappointed with the Dyna Beads tire balancing product.

I purchased a new set of front tires for my 2008 SM5 but decided to avoid the $131.00 installation fee the dealer wanted. My auto mechanic changed them for free, but the wheel spindle was too small to put them on his balancing machine, so I opted for 2 ounces of Dyna Beads in each tire. When I took it for a ride, everything was smooth until I hit 52 miles per hour. The Spyder began vibrating with an out of balance affect until it reached 58 MPH at which time it smoothed out at all speeds above 58. I brought the speed up to 75 and back down to 45 noticing the vibration only in the 52 to 58 MPH range.

I put one additional ounce in each tire and went for a 150 mile ride. I ran all speeds from a stop up to 85 and I ran on all types of road surfaces, smooth, rough, railroad crossings, potholes, etc. The extra ounce of beads did not help with the vibration. I found that when I started rolling on a smooth surface, the out-of-balance condition was less severe than when I started rolling on a rough surface. Each time I would stop and start again, the severity of the condition would change, but always occurring between 52 and 58 MPH. Sometimes, I would pick up a severe oscillating effect in my windshield and mirrors as if the weighted side of one tire was on the ground while the other was at 180 degrees opposite.

I am now going to remove the tires from each wheel, blow out the Dyne Beads with compressed air and have my motorcycle mechanic (not the dealership) spin balance them on his tire machine.

I cannot recommend this product for the Spyder.

Use RIDE-ON --- it will balance the tires just fine--- many of us have used this for many thousands of miles and it works great.

Have not balanced my tires in over 15,000 miles-- pulled the weights off and just use Ride-On. It might take a mile to balance out at first-- or after sitting for a long time-- but the stuff works GREAT.

Sorry about your experience. I've used them for some time with no Ill effects. I don't remember exact amounts but I'm wondering if there might be another problem with your new tires.

Have you tried changing your tire pressure.

Long story short with ride-on. When I added a couple more ounces of ride-on to what was already there I experienced a vibration between 56-62 mph whether in 3rd, 4th, or 5th; I have an SM5. I added more b/c it was stated here what Ride-On recommended for the stock tires; 13 oz. front and 18 oz. rear.

I have now inflated the tires back to 30 psi in the back and 20 psi in the front. It appears the vibration is gone or lessened quite a bit.

I got lazy last season and after initially checking the tires with a gauge I didn't check again b/c others here have stated here since using ride-on they haven't lost any tire pressure.

I had dropped the tire pressure mid-season last year from 30 to 26 rear and 20 to 17 fronts. At the end of the season I had 24 in the rear and 14 in each of the fronts. I checked tire pressure with the same gauge with the tires cold, beginning and end of season. So, either one of two things happened; I did lose tire pressure over time (even with ride-on) or when I brought the spyder in for maintenance they reduced the pressure.

I guess this wasn't a short story after all.

Put Dyna Beads in my tires also, since I had them in my BMW tires without problems. Got very bad vibration at times. I then went to their web sight looking for answers. Under their frequently asked questions page, someone asked why they did not have a usage chart for the tires on their mini van. The reply was that the beads so not work very well with low profile tires of 65 aspect or less, so they really do not recommend beads for low profile tires. Took my beads out and all is well.

Brian and I also use RideOn and no wheel weights. My spyder rides smoother than ever.

Also, regarding the balancing...you may or may not need to remove wheel weights...Mr. George Burns himself (love the name) advised not to remove the weights unless there is an issue. Figure if the weights are already balancing the tires, the Ride-On won't do any harm...however, if you do have wheel imbalances, the Ride-On should coat nicely and help the situation.

The Dyna Beads work great for me, used Ride-On in the kenda's, still had vibration at around 60, installed some Michelin exalta's, balanced with weight, and they were smooth, and not feeling the need for flat protection as much with auto tires,I didn't add Ride-On. I later added Dyna Beads, 2 oz. front and 3 oz. in the rear and it was even smoother, i could see it in the mirrors

run dyno beads on the RT and no issues at all OEM tires. had dealer put them in day 1

was crusing at 80 to 85 for hours no issues on way back from Cuba. also other speeds up and down with traffic. smooth....
