• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Back from the dealership: parking brake fix available...

...but only if you take the bike in and complain! BRP is not making this a recall item but has an updated fix available....only to those who request a "fix.""

more parking brake info...

I was under the impression this was a recal

Dealership said that BRP is not making the parking brake issue a recall item but a "fix-it kit, if they want one" because not everyone uses a parking brake or cares about it. There are different issues...brake won't let go easily, brake won't engage...mine engages but does not stop the bike from rolling away. :banghead:

your cable got streched out trying to release your brake so hit them up for a new cable also.Everones parking brake should work beacause sooner or later you might need it as a emergency brake also u never know.:spyder:

Yeah like when yours rolled away from you that day :yikes:
I want mine fixed too and I want that :cus::barf:break squeel to go away. I feel like a :cus: schoolbus at times!

parking brake...

Mine doesn't have that problem...went out for a ride the other day and forgot to release it...certainly led to a bunch of stalls before I could get anywhere...(duh!)...only went about 100 yards before I actually got smart enough to look at the gauge cluster...

I could move the bike, but it wasn't too happy...once it was released, all was fine....

Same thing with a car...you can move it with the emergency brake on but it'll let you know that it's on sooner or later...

Emergency Brake

My emergency brake has malfunctioned 2 times in 1,500 miles. The first time they adjusted the spring this time they are ordering a complete new brake cable. Hope this takes care of it.

I see you have an RT, you dug up an old GS/RS post and this is not the same issue.

Parking Brake Won't Release

I have recently became owner of my Dad's 2008 Spyder GS or should I call it a RS? He complained about the parking brake would not release. He just quit using it. I became the owner of his bike and now I know what he was saying. I have adjusted the brake cable so it will start to hold the bike when you press the parking brake pedal to first click, second click will hold the bike. Trouble begins when I step on pedal to release the parking brake, sometimes it will release, other times it won't. When it does not release I have to lay on ground and reach up and release the locking paw while I press on the parking brake pedal. While bike was a dealer getting power steering upgrade, I asked the service person about the problem. I was told that it is not a recall but I can order a new ratchet plate ($10.00) have it installed and problem solved. Has anyone heard of this or had it done? If so, how did it work?

I Think this is what the dealer means;PARKING BRAKE PLATE #705600776= 10.99$ + 0.75 hours to install ,So far it's working, But i very rarely use the brake i just park in gear [08 Sm5]

I frequently have to adjust my parking brake cable....sometimes it just doesn't hold...adjust and it's good for a while...then re-adjust...maybe I'll take it in and see what they say.....eventually the cable will have to be replaced......when we were at Maggie Valley I noticed some bikes had a different mechanism than I have....anybody know what the difference is????

I just had parking brake plate replaced on my RS and it now works great. Total cost w/ labor $52.00. Previous to the repair, it would not "catch" when I tried to put on the brake. :f_spider:

I have an RS and after a few trips to have the brake adjusted they told me there is now a service notice for it. Got it done now it works like a charm. Im with you about the brake squeal:gaah:
