Average MPG for the RT?

:helpsmilie:Whos is getting better mpg and how are you doing it? I have a 2010 RT and get an average of 22-25mpg on a good day with perfect road conditions and at 65-70mph. Some are saying they get 35mpg, or 28mpg and then there are those that are just like me...25mpg MAX. How do I get 30mpg? Please reply with YOUR average...and if is better than 25mpg, what are you doing to get that? I even had a day that I only got 20mpg but, that was at 85+.:dontknow:

Elvis77: just did first tank following 600 mile break-in. 27.6 mpg around town and some little bit of highway.

Salesman said that they had it set rich for break-in. I was only getting about 20 mpg. Will see what happens on the next few tank fulls. MV next week should be good check.

Unless you are running on freeways, try backing down to 55-60 and see what that does for you. Sounds like you may be over pushing it if you are looking for mileage.

almost always 25 mpg but almost always city type driving with wind screen all the way up. Almost always ride with screen all the way up.
Only had 30 once this past weekend but all country roads and all at 45 to 55 mpg Sunday Drive type riding.

2300 miles on RT as of now.

I was getting 28 mpg until I lowered my windshield an inch or two and changed out the wind deflectors to the 2011 models. Now, I get 31-32 ever single tank.
:2thumbs:

You should get better with the windshield down. Your dealer probably won't address it under warranty, because it is within BRPs wide specs. My guess is that you either have a bad plug/wire or a sensor problem causing an overly lean condition...which causes a need to use the throttle far more generously. Reading the plugs may help pin it down. Hard problem to resolve. I hope you can find relief. 26-32 mpg is typical for a 2011, slightly less for a 2010..

I have gotten over 30, but average about 26-27. I rather like that twisty, rubber hand grip on the right hand side..:shemademe_smilie:

3000 miles on mine.

Generally 25 to 27 if I stay driving like a little old lady. Below 5,000 milage goes up, venture above it like on an interstate running the normal 70+ 24 or less. Pulling the trailer I am lucky to see 24 even using 65 and the cruise that is the best.

Now I am approaching 7,000 miles on the RT with auto shift and that is where the insides of the RS seemed to get happy with themselves and fuel milage went up. Last 3 tanks were done at a low speed and I got close to 28, so I burned up a tank on the interstate to see if it was finally breaking in a bit. 28.5 MPG with mostly highway maybe there is light at the end of the tunnel? This thing the way they have got the engine computer set up will never be a miser in the fuel department. The trike has been on 2 different dealers computers and evreything looks fine to the computer in both places. Plus I would bet the house that the front suspension is scrubbing off speed and increasing effort to move the trike too.

Wish I still had the alignment rack access as I would love to see what the setting on the trikes front end with me on it and pushed down to ride hiehght like the wind doubtlessly does. Bet that front end is so far from optimum settings it would make you cry. Toe, Castor, and Camber settings put into the ballpark of right on and I bet this thing even pushing the barndoor it has would do much better handling and MPG wise.

Too old to start messing with this now as I have other plans to make the best of the time I have left. OH well ride it and ecept it for what it is I guess! Bill :cus:

I normally get 27 - 30 MPG running 65 - 70 MPH. But a couple of weeks ago I filled up with 194.4 miles and took 5.7 gallons, for 34.1 MPG. I wish I knew why. I can't make it happen again.

34+ MPG for me and I have a best of 41 on a highway trip.
2 Bros pipe, green filter and custom map which I will be forever tweeking. But, it sure is fun. Anything over 70 MPH and it really drops down for economy.

I average anywhere from 22 to 39 mpg depending on a number of factors. If I'm ryding up the Columbia Gorge battling a viscous headwind, I'll get low 20's. If I'm being a good boy, going the posted speed limit I'll get 29 to 32 mpg. If I'm just ryding down the super-slab with my cruise control set at 67 with no detectable headwind, I might even get up to the mid-30's. Take a look at my Fuelly stats. I also use premium grade gas...don't know if that helps or not, but I'd like to think that it does. For what it's worth, I'll break 15,000 miles on the odo this weekend with my trip to San Francisco and back.

My average is about 32-37mpg. Since about two months i have been using low octane pure gas (no ethanol) and it makes a big difference.
I also installed a new exhaust - seems to help as well.
Couple weeks ago i made it 210 miles to a tank through the North Carolina Mtns. and some highway riding. Not to bad!!!

RE MPG

So much depends on ryding style, your weight and what one has loaded on the Spyder.

I have a 2010 RT-S. Recently, have been filling up with precise measurements to check mileage. In mixed driving (commuting), I am filling up at about 142 miles. In my last two fill-ups, I topped off at 142.25 miles with 4.53 gallons; and then again with 142.1 miles 4.38 gallons. That makes 31.4 to 32.4 mpg. On all highway driving, I'm gettng around 34 mpg.

I don't know why I seem to be so lucky. I will say that I have not mod'ed the exhaust or fuel system of my RT-S. I find generally that when folks do that, they trade mpg. I'm not a super big guy; also my ryding style respects the Spyder's characteristics of being a high-rev engine. The spyder might feel nice doing 45 mph in 5th gear, but at that speed you're actually lugging the engine and causing her to run rich.

:agree: My driving style actually has no style... I'm the Olphart in the right lane short-shifting each run up through the gears and staying at or below 55 mph.. :gaah:
But I'm averaging a steady 35mpg now!
I gave up on trying to impress anybody with my riding prowess years ago... I'm happy now gawking at the scenery and getting where I'm going without any arguments from the Missus over my piloting skills...

with 9000+ miles I am now getting 29-32.... when new. only got about 24-28... until broke in and 28-30 around 5000 miles.. so seems to be getting better...usuall2 2 up and windscreen 1/2 to full...:ohyea:
