Are F3S windshields just for looks?

Dray

New member
Took my new F3S out for a long ride yesterday and the wind bounced me around quite a bit. Evidently
the stock (small) windshield is just for looks. So, anyone have any experience with taller/wider shields
that they would like to pass their experience/opinions on to me. The factory shield looks good and
does do a fair job of routing the airflow over my head but with 11 years on a Goldwing, I must have
lead a sheltered life. Feel free to jump in here.

Thanks in advance!!

Dray,
Do a quick search on SL and you will find loads of options and opinions. I went with a Gustafsson which made use of my Blue Ridge brackets to keep the oem appearance.

Madstad

Wouldn't trade my Madstad for anything I've seen OEM, on this site or on after-market sites.
It took me about 50 miles to get it adjusted and it's been great since then.
(Can't comment on passenger wind impact because I just never ride 2 up.)
I really like the cross support bar for the brackets--it has allowed me to mount a fork bag that is really convenient.

That's my 2 cents...

+1 Madstad

Don and his crew at F4 Customs make some awesome windshields, and their responsiveness and customer service can't be beat.

IMHO on an F3, I believe the Madstad just "looks" more right/correct with this version Spyder. To each their own....

Mark & Patty at Madstad along with Blair have been equally good to work with in ordering and getting a bigger/taller shield for the unusually tall rider. And the adjustability of the mount to customize airflow to your preference is fantastic.

Also heavily considered and hear good things about CalSci (California Scientific) shields; they too have a loyal following.

Happy Hunting, it's part of this crazy Spyder Adventure!

Cheers!

hi

Buy an F4 and never look back. They are a little higher in price than other aftermarket shields but in this case you truly get what you pay for. You can actually clean them without worrying about scratches, they are optically correct, and will last the life of your bike

+ on the Madstad

Madstad is a fantastic windscreen, I've gone from Northern Canada to Louisiana with it and it is fantastic in all weather conditions.

I love my Gustafsson windshield, http://bikescreen.com/. I tried the Madstad and it wobbled too much so I sold it.

Not sure when you had your Madstad; I know this had been a complaint on their original F3 rear support. It was redesigned for more rigidity and better appearance with it debuting in mid-late November I believe. I didn't have the original, but understand the revised model was a big improvement.

I haven't experienced bothersome wobble and have a 22" adjusted high for my height. Have a custom 24" shield being delivered Friday so I can lower the shield into a lower range of their bracket adjustability but still have the height I need. Also had an inch added to both sides for a little more arm/hand coverage with the wider BRP Drag Bar.

I imagine if you can make it to Spyderfest you'll have a chance to see some of the best shields on the market either on folks trykes or in Vendor Village. I'll be there👍

I have had a Blue Ridge with and without a MRA Xcreen Touring deflector attached, a Gustafsson and now a Madstad. The Blue Ridge with the Xcreen helped but I still got wind blast on the head at motorway speed. The Gustafsson of which I have two the second one being taller. The first when it arrived was optically OK but the second taller one was far from perfect near the bracket mounting area (bad moulding) and the top lip distorted your view of the road. Finally the new redesigned Madstad with the bracing bar, which is perfect in every respect and stops all wind blast as it is fully adjustable.

F4 needs to mold a screen to fit the Blue Ridge brackets

I truly wish F4 would come out with a replacement screen that fit the blue ridge brackets like the Gustafsson. I do think the clarity and scratch resistance of the F4 screens is superior but I MUCH prefer the OEM look of the blue ridge brackets. Would sure be a win win to have the best of both designs.

You listening F4? Please...take my money.

Until this comes along, I'll stick with my Gustafsson as it works well and looks great.

F3S windshield

Got out the credit card and ordered an F4 windshield, cowl light (they are bright) soft grips and
a stabilizer bar. Now the fun begins. Still need to latch onto driving/fog lights and better headlights.

We both love F4. We had Blue Ridge first and both changed to F4. Been a fan for years. Don't know why my pics come out sideways on here.

F4 Customs Windshield

Went and harassed Don Frank and got him to sell us a Windshield.....Wife sez what a hell of a difference with the 32" on there...she even rode without her visor on and was pleasantly surprised that I could hear her on her microphone minus any wind noise....even looks more like a complete bike now with this shield on.....very easy install.!

Sorry bout the skewered pix' but they were upright when I took them....I dunno whutt the hell happened.
