• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

another ride report vertika vents

well just getting home from a apox. 90 mile ride. the bike ran well, the temp was between 50 to 55 degrees. running at 70 mph the temp gauge was at center of the gauge and when i got out by the ocean and it got a lil cooler the temp gauge was around 1/4 of the way up. but as soon as i slowed down or stopped it rose up to almost 3/4 of the way up. at a stop and at almost 3/4 hot when the fan came on the temp did drop almost to half way. so to sum it up the vents work pretty good, but the bike did almost a full tank of gas with only 95 miles rode

Thank you for the update on the vents. 95 miles on a tank of gas sounds like there are some computer issues--unless the bike is running funny from the older gas that was in your tank.

John,
Is your "comfort level" on the bike improved?

And, did all of the panels stay in place this time? :yikes:

Thanks for the update! I'm glad the heat on your foot was resolved . . . but wonder why your gas mileage was so poor . . . is it the gas that spent the winter in your tank? Have you gotten the most recent BUDS update?

same gas i put it away with and not yet on the update

I put the new style they should be back from the hydro-graphics guy end of this week that along with the exhaust tape air filter removal and cat replacement it should be really good. However the temps here today are in the low 30s maybe next week..............maybe.

Glad to hear your upgrades worked out for you. No hot feet that's great. But that mileage sucks.

I wonder if there is a problem with the thermostat that kicks on your fan. As soon as my temp gauge is just a smidgen past half way, just so you can see the half way mark underneath the needle, my fan kicks on.

Question for you. With the vertika parts installed, it appears the side exits for the hot radiator air are all blocked. Where does the hot air exit now and how is that accomplished?

side vents

when you cover up the side vents you have to cut a hole in the back of the space to allow the hot air to flow into the engine compartment

now i didn't know riding in trailer mode will cut gas mileage, i like the way the bike downshifts in trailer mode so i now keep the bike set up that way

John,
So if I understand all of this... Your mods now have all of the airflow through the radiator, exiting out and to the back of the bike; through the engine compartment? :dontknow:
Do you have any way to monitor the engine bay's temperatures?

no bob

the only way i can tell right now is by the heat under the seat, but being it was cool out yesterday i didn't feel any. but sitting at a stop the temp rose almost to 3/4 on the gauge but when the fan came on i did see the gauge drop slightly. so when the weather get better and temps rise we will see what happens. i called the dealer yesterday to get the bike in for the update and he said not till thursday of next week

I would think so. It forces the bike to rev higher before allowing the next shift and in town that would have a serious affect on mileage, out on the hiway not so much. Even the guys that tow trailers say there is a mileage drop between the weight of the trailer and the higher rev shift points. Get the ECM update done and change it back to normal mode and then let us know the results, I think you should be pleased after that update.

If you shift any sooner than the trailer mode allows, you drop below the 3500 rpm point where the clutch is locked up. IE you slip the clutch on each shift.

Gasoline is cheaper than a new clutch and the trailer mode keeps me out of the clutch slip range.

If driven correctly, neither mode should have any effect on gas mileage. Its in the right wrist.
