There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Another overheated Spyder

I don't know anything about the ground wire fix doing anything other than grounding the coil pack so there was no RF messing up the signal to the computer. There's no mention of arcing that I've read on the boards. Did I miss a post about that?

Can't imagine a ground wire on the coil doing anything other than what you mention here. The reason BRP recommeds it (as I've heard they do) is to keep the RF from giving the sensors/BUDS problems with interference.

Not any arching issue.

Nope . . . .

. . . . that was my crossed wires shorting out. I was sure I had read a posting on how the grounding wire for the RF problem also fixed some arcing that was occurring. I can't find it now, sorry for the mistake. I will edit my posting.

By the way, did anyone figure out why the two grounds were required?

Spyder fires

Just got my 2008 SE5 back from the dealer after having the fuel line from the fuel filter to the carb replaced, it was loose at fuel filter and spewing gas and was cracked like a dry rotted tire. It is kept in a heated ,air conditioned garage.:dontknow:

I see another recall coming but I wouldn't wait on this one :gaah:

Sorry to bring up an old thread. I'm just wondering if a recall was ever issued on this topic ( of the fuel line from the fuel filter to the carb being too small, or cracking, etc...).

Thank you.

Gas leak

I just fixed a problem on my 09 se5. The quick release type connector for the fuel return line was leaking when the spyder was running. There are two connections to the gas tank. a Large diameter one to the filter and a smaller return. The return was leaking. It's one of those quick release type connector that attach to the white plastic connections from the gas tank. I just took it off and put the line directly on the nipple and tightened it down with a good old fashioned SS hose clamp.

It doesn't take much fuel vapor under the tupperware to start a fire

My guess is this is the problem.

Same problem that the M109R had when it first came out. It was a fuel rail that was a little short and they didn't get a good clamp on it. The recall sent out a longer fuel rail and that fixed the problem.
I thought it looked to have originated in the fuel line area, but an "in person" inspection is the only way to say for sure. The comments regarding a fuel leak that had been looked at 3 times with no resolution seems to be a signicant point.

My bike fire started in that area. Not sure where spark came from but VSS sensor {not sure correct name} had a hole in the side burn from the inside out..sensor is only speculation on spark point.

Yikes!

I guess I need to check on this. I have been smelling gas fumes off and on. One time it was so bad I thought I had forgotten to put the gas cap back on. I am not getting the hot panels that others mentioned, but have been getting the gas smell.:yikes:

Hi everyone.

Is this over-heating happening on the 2008/2009 machines, or the 2010 machines?

Thanks and good luck finding the issue and getting it fixed.

I narrowly avoided the catastrophe. While stopped briefly at a gas station, my Spyder wouldn't start. I smelled gas and thought I had flooded it when I noted a puddle of gas running out from under the bike. Had it towed to the dealer and discovered the banjo clamp on the fuel line had failed under pressure.

Luckily I was stopped when it happened. Hate to think of what might have happened had it failed while ryding.

I agree with Lamont's assessment

Thanks for your comment.

Is your machine a 2008, 2009 or 2010 model, and is it an RS or RT?

Also, perhaps I missed it.... what is Lamont's Assessment on this?

Thank you.

I have a 2009 SE5.

Lamont: "Near as I can tell from the pics and descriptions of the fires it seems that they are starting near the top of the Spyder near the gas tank." This in response to some who think it might be an exhaust gasket issue
