Analog fuel guage accuracy on RT-S?

clueless

How is everyone's accuracy on the ANALOG Fuel guage on RT-S?

i know i can unplug both guages and get the DIGITAL one but I would like to keep the analog. call me old school but I can do a quick glance at the analog faster then reading the digital guage.

I am reading just at the top of the RED empty line at 100 miles (I get avg 30 mpg) so it should be closer to just under half tank. assuming I get 175 miles per tank.

if you had this issue was dealer able to fix accuracy?

Mine was very bouncy, so I disconnected and started using the digital display. But like you, I can look over to the analog and read quicker so I'm thinking of going back to analog. I read on here that there's a fix for the bouncy fuel gauge, so time to call up the dealership. I still haven't figured out any accuracies with the mpg and fuel readings. I did notice that the speedometer is off by about 4 mph faster than I'm actually going.

mine doesn't bounce but I heard they were replacing guages with bouncing issue.

I just prefer analog. analog speedo and tach and analog fuel :doorag:

Another perspective...

Both of our gages are accurate relatively speaking. No bouncing at all. One thing I really need to do is actually run both RT's totally out of gas and then see how much it takes to fill the tank. Then I will have a better handle on the gage accuracy. Seems when we run the analog gage to bottom of red, the tank takes 5.0-5.1 gals. The reading vs. gals pumped are consistent. I just want to know exactly when we will run out. Len

mine is accurately *consistent* off by 2 gallons it seems.

when it hits red we only need to add 3.5 gals.

Having run both for thousands of miles now I would say the analog gauge is not near as accurate as the digital gauge. When you're empty on the digital you better be pulling off for fuel. When you're empty on the analog you still have a good amount of fuel left, or at least that's how it is on my RT.

I have been stopping for fuel at/or about 160 miles and consistantly putting 5.7 gallons. I have read several post on this....does anyone have a definative answer on exactly how much "usable" fuel the RT can hold?

I would say not much more than that.

:agree:I use the ODO every time and at about 125 mi the low fuel light comes on. I have been avg. about 25/29 mpg. I feel at 130 on the ODO its time to start looking for fuel. Plus for me after that its time to get off and strech my legs and check for leak. :ani29:

I had the bouncing fuel gauge syndrome and the dealer replaced the fuel guage. it is working fine again. I consistently get 34 miles per gallon when I dont push the Spyder to hard--(shifting between 4000 + 4500 mostly). My fuel light usually comes on between 139 and 145 miles into a tank of gas, and it usually takes 4 to 4.5 gallons to fill it. I keep putting gas in after the auto shutoff--usually .25-.50 gallon additional after the shut off. I have never pushed it beyond 180 miles before a refill.

:agree: If you can get 6.0 gallons into a Spyder, you were either running on fumes, or you ran gas over into the evap canister.

so it looks like 150 miles on the Odometer and should be near empty light ... haven't ran it down to the empty light yet because dont know exactly how much i have left in tank after say 3/4 tank used up... the gauge is too low to be usable.

Mine hit rock bottom before the light came on, but that was with the old, bouncy gauge. The new one reads more accurately, but is still pessimistic. I don't think that's bad. I couldn't go 150 miles on an entire tank, anyway. 25 mpg is about the best I get.

went 600 miles this past weekend with avg 30 to 35 mpg mostly highway 60 mph 2 up

at fuel light come on put in 4 gals of gas so reading off by at least 1.5 gals

would think the light is supposed to come on about 1 gal left

I have yet to yield numbers near that high. I average 25-28mpg; no mods, conservative driving, flat roads, highway driving, etc. Around 100 miles on a tank, I look for gas; at 130, I begin to panic a bit. I rarely see the light come on, and I typically put in between 4.0 - 5.0 gallons

Again, all this is with the analog gauge disconnected.

When I got my roadster, I spent the first month figuring out how to read my analoge fuel gauge. Since the tank shape is like an inverted pyramaid your needle stays in the full mark for a long while before desending. If your tank is probably filled your needle will only start desending from the full mark after 60km. As your needle approaches the half way point you will notice your needle desend faster to the empty mark. On three occations I let the needle desend to the stopper on the empty mark. Shortly after the low fuel light illuminated. At this point I refueled the roadster and constantly found that I had 7Liters (1.84 US Gal) left in the tank. Basically I believe BRP designed this gauge to read low fuel because they don't want their customers to run out of fuel. It takes nerves of steal (or stupidity to ride a roadster while the fuel gauge reads empty). On the bright side, once you know this you can play good pranks on your passenger.

Wow 150 miles on a tank of fuel! I am getting around 25 MPG and I am sure not that brave or willing to push 1200 lbs down the road very far either. I get the light around 100 miles and the fartherest I have dared to go without a fillup was 132 miles. It took 5.7 gallons that time and I was shaken in my boots watching the pump tick off gallons in the tank especially since it was late at night and I had been on the interstate. I had slowed my speed down to about 55 to cruise in to the home station too. Bill

we get consistently at worst 30 mpg and avg 35 mpg on hwy s up at 70 mph with screen all the way down.

the 30 mpg is stop and go short trips in around town.

dealer ordered new guage so hopefully more accurate. now have to use mileage to start looking around 175 miles on the tank and we still need only 5 gals at that time...

I think you need the gauge to be accurate no matter what is in the tank. if i want to run it down or somehow use more aggressively I want to go off gauge not mileage :doorag: so it should be up to ME how low I run the tank ... not the mfg to report less gas in the tank then is actually there so as I dont run out of gas ...
