• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Ambient Air Temp Guage replacement

Does anyone have an RT with accurate (& current) air temp shown in their display? I have read all the posts I could find on this topic but am still frustrated with the air temp readings every time I get on my RT. They are never off more than 6-10 degrees, but also are rarely more accurate.

I am considering replacing one of my (disconnected) round dash gauges with a good quality digital Air Temp gauge and have looked at TelTek and Cyberdyne gauges. Has anyone else become frustrated enough to do this ?

Neither Nancy's RS nor my RTS was ever closer than 4-5 degrees. These units respond very slowly, probably due in part to the cluster programming. The sensor is also located within the bodywork, and is subject to picking up heat from the engine and radiator...or build-up from the heat of the day. This effect is especially evident after the machine is parked a while after a ride, then started again. If you want an accurate and quick-responding indication of outside temp, a separate gauge may be your best bet, although the sensor/thermometer location would be critical for accuracy. Note that the separate gauge will not compensate for the effects of the high reading of the sensor on the fuel system mapping.

I currently have an analog voltmeter and oil pressure gauge mounted in place of the OEM gauges, which I disconnected. I have decided to replace these gauges with Cyberdyne Digital Voltmeter and Outside Temperature gauges. This will be a winter project and I expect to have this completed by early February, depending on how long it take for the gauges to be delivered.

My current voltmeter works well, but I am not totally pleased with the performance of the oil pressure sender unit. I will post pictures after I have had an opportunity to do the install.

At Pep Boys one day I picked up one of those clear stick on a window type ambient thermometers. Uses a clear suction cup. About 1.5" wide and 2" tall. I put it on the clear wind deflector (RT). Looks cool, works, and... $7!

Phil, that looks great, have you found it to be accurate? I think I am gonna have to run over to pep boys tomorrow.

Was the install very difficult or should I just have my mechanic do it :D

HAR!!! BTW- I THINK it was PepBoys... pretty sure. I got one a bit larger for my house on Saturday from WalyWorld, so there might be multiple places.

True. But within about 2min of riding, with the air movement, it's accurate. I'll say accurate comparing it against bank signs that show temps and against what Weatherbug shows on my iPhone.

That gauge would look good on my kitchen window, but I just cant get excited about using it on my Spyder!

Then use the system I use...

If drops of sweat drip off my nose, it is hot.
If frost forms on my mustache, it is cold.
If I don't have everything I own on, and am not wishing I was wearing a tank top and shorts, and neither of the above happens...it is just right! :joke:

Out here in western Arizona during the summer when it is over *115 most of the time it would be useless. Anything over 110 is to hot to ride. Sometimes I try to ride and if I knew how hot it was I would park the bike all summer.:doorag:
