Adding Oil Between Changes

2013 RT-S. How much oil is needed to bring the level up to full from the "add" line?

There is no actual measurement I can offer just add a lil at a time & keep checking till you hit your mark.(try have a suction device like turkey baster handy if you go over) I have learned about regular engines, if you've noticed other dipsticks have the hash marks on end of dipstick. Those equal 1qt of oil per that engine. Just take your time & try lil shot or double shots at a time. If way low maybe 1/4 qt,give time to settle, follow manual instructions for run time & check again :thumbup:Repeat as needed. opcorn:

From the add line ( bottom of the dipstick) to the full line, is 500 ml. So that is 1/2 quart/liter. So if checked regularly, while hot not cold. When the oil goes below the add line. Add half a quart and the oil level will be between the add and full, perfect. If you check the oil level cold. You will overfill it.

When we had the 2012 RT I just kept the oil between add and full. Usually added about 2 oz. at a time.

Hard to say...

would depend on where your oil level is when you check it. The add a little at a time and coming close but not to the full mark is the best way. How and where you ryde will determin how much you need to add. The consumption will lessen as the engine gets more mileage on it. Then there is the type and brand of oil...use the best you can get and check it after long rydes....

Just be sure the oil is HOT! If the oil is not at operating temperature you're very likely to get a "Low" reading. Then when you add you're likely to have an 'Over Fill' situation which may lead to "burning" more oil than you might otherwise.

I was surprised to see that the procedure for checking the oil is VERY SPECIFIC for the 998 models.......so be sure you are doing it right.

Dry sump engines require very specific procedures. :thumbup:
