Sorry! I've been busy and tired!
Got home about 9:45 Wednesday evening. Remind me not to travel from Idaho to Portland in the winter again! Coming back was not a fun trip. Rain and heavy traffic on I-5 from Olympia to Vancouver on Tuesday afternoon. Spent the night with my cousin in Vancouver.
A snow and ice storm passed over the Columbia Gorge Tuesday night so I waited until noon to leave Vancouver so I-84 would have a chance to clear up. Wet and slush from Hood River to The Dalles and slow traffic. The bike got dirty from water, slush, and cinders (I guess OR doesn't use sand and salt) being thrown around by all the trucks I passed. From The Dalles to LaGrande was OK. The best part of the road was over the Blues. It was dry to La Grande. That is usually about the worst part of I-84 in OR. LaGrande to Baker City was a mix. Some dry, some wet, and some snow. Baker to about 20 miles west of Ontario was the worst. Broken snow floor in places, blowing snow with lightly snow covered roadway on the tops of the grades. In one spot about 30 miles west of Ontario I ran into a patch of black ice. I slid around and I think jack knifed the trailer, which actually helped straighten me out. Spun the steering wheel 3 or 4 times in the process of trying to keep going straight. A trailer sure does complicate matters on ice. I pulled over to check for any problems. There weren't any so got back in and came on home, watching a lot closer for slick icy conditions. Got home about 9:45 PM.
Took the bike to a car wash yesterday to get the road grime cleaned off. Just looked a bit ago and don't see any obvious chips or nicks from the cinders being thrown around by semis I passed. Thank God for that.
All is quiet and peaceful now!
