• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

We do use the word sweetcorn rather than maize, however, which is corn growing in the field.

I'm afraid that the cuddly, cheerful bobby image is now getting very stale.
If you're a bad guy/girl you can expect to meet up with a cop like this:

Thanks....

Lots of British back home growing up. I went to the American school they went to the British school but when school was out we met in the middle. One advantage was if neither one understood we just said it in spanish....:roflblack:

A British friend caused a bit of a stir when she first came to the U.S. when she asked her co-workers if any of them had a rubber she could borrow.

Recently I have watched a few episodes UK based show called Wheeler Dealers. I find it interesting for the cars that I don't see one this side of the pond.

The premise of the show is one guy will look for a classic motor with a few problems cheap. The other guy will get the problems with the motor sorted. He does this by looking under the bonnet and working on the engine. Or maybe fix a few holes in the boot. One episode he refurbished a binnacle. In another he sorted a problem with the suspension by replacing a couple bush. Then the first guy will sell it on for a profit.

Don't get bent out of shape

If a Brit asks if you have a fag, they're asking for a cigarette.

Hi OJ UK,

Re: Scotch Tape vs Sellotape

Since 'Sellotape' comes from cellophane tape, why is it spelled sello?

Just wondering,

Jerry Baumchen

'Sellotape' is one of (if not The, for a while at least) leading brand names for 'sticky' tape products etc in the UK & Aust.... And over time the brand name has become universally (in those countries anyway) used to refer to any 'sticky' tape products. ;)

Just like here in Aus we use 'Texta' to refer to ANY marking pen altho it's been a few decades since Texta pens were the leading brand sold here; or how we use 'Biro' for any ballpoint pen, even if it's a Bic or Parker or anything else.... :sour:

This'll all probably change in a generation or two.....
