688 curves 46 miles

Hell's Canyon, great ride, then after that we did another 45 miles up to Joseph Oregon to Wallowa Lake. What is it they say? been there done that and bought the T-shirt! We stopped at Scotty's to pick up some ice and the 3 Harley's we had been pushing in front of us were amazed that both of us were pulling trailers and one was a woman! My wife told the one guy that if she had not been pulling the trailer she would have passed him.By then I was ready for a nap!

Not to take away from your photos or ride, but ever notice that the marketing hype that some geographic areas need to get people in to ride. Trail of the Dragon. Hell's Canyon. Three SIsters. Sure, they are nice rides (we've done all three). But you don't have to advertise spectacular places like Beartooth Pass, Chief Joseph Highway, Cherahola Skyway, or the Cabot Trail (to name just a few) to draw people in. I'm kind of marketing hyped out. In that same area of OR is NF39 or the Wallowa Mountain Loop. In my opinion, it has more turns and more views and fewer people than HC.

Congratulations on great set of photos, kicking some two-wheel tail, and getting out to enjoy the scenery!

HC was ok

Just rode Hells Canyon this year and it was ok. Just got back from the Black Hills again and I actually prefer Iron Mountain to HC.. 17 miles 314 curves, 14 switchbacks, 3 single lane tunnels... and so on... If you get a chance the old Devil's Highway (used to be Rt 666) is a really fun ride as well. On the opposite side of pushing Harley's my girl rides a 07 (that she bought used with 5k on it in 2011) Sporty... over 8k so far this summer and almost 50k so far with no problems. She is always asking why the Spyders are going so slow... I guess it is the rider and not the bike.

I think the rides are promoted so people will come and buy souvenirs, lodging, food, etc. from the businesses near them. Those other rides may not have businesses that want to promote them.

So thanks for the tips on other places to ryde.

It was a workout and when we got to Scotty's we headed down the road about 4 miles and rode up to Joseph OR on NF49 that had just as many curves, it climbs up to the Wallowas and is Open Range so there is a lot of Cows in the canyons and on the roads, Ellie was following a little to close once and got splashed with some very fresh cow pies and I had to stop at a campground with a bucket of water and wash her bike off, she said she was feeling real sh---y . Some even splashed on her jacket and her face shield, she had a tendency to hang further back after that. It's hard to see in the photo but it was all over the bike.

The name of Devils Tail came from a group of riders in 2008 at the Hell's Canyon Rally after they ran the road from Oxbow Oregon to the Hell's Canyon Dam. Some of the road is private and and is owned by the Idaho Power Company and has a sign that states that you travel at your own risk. If you Google Devils Tail you can research a number of great rides in the area. My wife and I have made several trips over to the Wallowas and love it. The last full weekend of July the Town of Joseph celebrates the Chief Joseph Days and you need to make reservations a year in advance, we camp out in our pop-up so we can always find a place to make a camp. If you have never been to this part of Oregon it's a must see and ride destination. At Wallowa Lake there is a Tram-Way that takes you up to the top of a mountain on the edge of the Eagle Cap wilderness that is breath taking.

If you come to Alaska, I can show you at least five rides just as scenic--within 20 miles of my home. None are marketed to the public. I like them so much, I pretty much ride all of them on a weekly basis. :yes: Two are pictured below.

I told my wife that an Alaska trip on the spyder was on my bucket list. She told me I could ride it up there, she would fly, I could pick her up and then we could see it.
Post some more of those pics and I will see if I can get her to agree to that in a couple of years.

Prime riding is mid June - July. After Aug 15 it starts cooling down to the 50's. Leaves are gone by mid September.

I did put the warning that about 7 of the albums were Alaska. Have done a few other things though. :roflblack::roflblack::roflblack:

How bad are the state birds from mid June - July , I'm thing next year a two week ride up and back from Oregon.

It depends where you are. If you go to the tundra, count on millions and protective netting.

Here--mostly May-June. They are big, and fly slow. Easy to kill. The locals call them B-52's.
