• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

600 Mile Service WHAT?

This is just my two cents on this topic. I have a 2012 RTS-SE5. I never had a dealer do a 600 mile service. I changed the oil and filters myself. I did have some warranty work done later on and weather the dealer preformed this 600 mile service or not wasn't an issue, wasn't even mentioned. I do keep an up to date service record along with receipts for oil and filters. If you are having some codes come up yeah maybe you should have it checked out, but that should be covered under the warranty. As far as updates, I put 600 miles on the first week I owned it. I certainly wouldn't be worried about getting new updates every 600 miles. All the other little check this and check that stuff they say they will do can certainly be done by the owner.

The problem with your plan is BRP constantly sends out updated BUDS settings and if you don't at least get a BUDS check you may have problems. One in particular was a Throttle Body software update to prevent failure. We all know there were plenty of those. I do my own oil changes after I paid for the first service that REQUIRES THE TECH TO SIGN THE SERVICE MANUAL. I do keep receipts for what I buy (oil & filters) and mark the back of the manual.

Go for it

I have read the manual completely 3 times and referenced it many times (and I have only had the Spyder 4 1/2 months) not all specific information is in the owners manual.

I would love to purchase a hard copy shop manual for my specific Spyder (have done this before for other bikes) but I guess they dont offer one....only digital. :spyder2:

I purchased a BRP hard copy manual from a BRP dealer. It was about $165.00 and worth every dollar of it. It takes you through every step even if you have to flip around in different sections such as from "body" to "cooling system". In the back are wonderful illustrations with torques for most bolts. It finishes off with a large wiring schematic. Totally worth it.

Found a list

Fyi recomended periodic mainance scheduale found in 2014 catalog I had laying around , if pic is good enough you want first colum on left

For us 998 V-twiners:

Can anyone provide a list of what is done on the first 600 mile service ? (I used the search function and cant find any)

Some are being quoted 500.00 + 200 more for an oil change, etc for first service. A list would be nice to ascertain if on that initial first service if the owner is capable of doing it.

Asking for myself and other v-twin owners. :spyder2:

Thanks !

I paid $250.00 and I though that was high. It was about a 2 hrs. of labor. I got 30% discount on labor.

This is now being overthought by everyone in here... :banghead:
1. If you want a list: you've already got it!
2. If you don't want to p[ay that much for the service: shop around.
3. Should the dealer perform this service? Do you trust them to do it right? :dontknow:
3a. If you don't trust them; why are you using their shop? :dontknow:

Go take a long ride today; it'll make you feel better! nojoke

Its best to let a dealer do it but the $$$$$ quoted is a RIP off. Should cost no more then $ 250-300 for everything depends on hrly rate

I just got quoted $380 just for an oil change from Tri county powersports in Moorpark, i am going to stay away from there despite the fact they are the only dealer within 40 miles. I had them do some other work they quoted me 2 hours, dropped it off said he i am stuck here waiting and there is not even a starbucks within walking distance of here so get started on it right away. it was done in almost exactly one hour but they still charged me for 2, when i complained they basically said too bad, shop policy. Its amazing to me how actual services have been replaced with "checks" and not just on bikes and spyders, with cars too. My dealer wanted 500+ to do a 15,000 mile service on my sedan and the only thing actually done is to change the oil and air filter so i declined. Dealers are using this to beef up revenue since vehicles do not require the same services they used to. As example uou used to need a tune up every 15-30k miles now you can go 100k on the same spark plugs so they invent all these inspect charges. Really Dealers have the worst reputation of any group i can think of except maybe politicians.
