• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

6 Speed Transmission Observation

We ride a lot of country back roads and generaly the speeds are in the 40 mph range, those of you with a semi auto transmission know that at 40 mph you do a lot of shifting from 3rd to 4th and vice versa, with the 6 speed i stayed in 4th gear and did not have to shift hardly at all

Interesting..!!

makes me wonder why have a 6 speed tranny to run the fun roads in 4th gear. I'm sure 6th comes into play at some point though I never felt a need with the sm5 maybe just me cause I do run at high rpms. Thanks for the continuing reviews...:ohyea::ohyea:

REVS ? ? ?

Gene,
They needed another gear in order to bring the revs down; this isn't a screamer; it's a torquer!

I'm in agreement with Bob on this, I was under the impression that the 2014 engine was designed to run at LOWER rpm's.......This seems like you would be running a HARLEY in 3 rd..........Duh ? ? ?............................Just sayin .....Mike :yikes:

I know..!!

Just ruffling feathers to bring out the defenders...this is also why the can't tell when they shift gears cause the ratios are closer together makes things smoother. Still like the high reving engines..it's in the blood...:roflblack::roflblack:

That's going to be a source of discussion this Spring...
"I HATE this engine and transmission; you can't rev it at all! :gaah:" :roflblack:

Great ideas for future threads. We will eventually get the new one figured out. It took almost a year before most of us moved on to the high rev club with the 998's.

I have a 2012 RTL,and I find myself sometimes going to fast for a lower gear, but not quite fast enough for a higher gear..I bet this 6 speed is going to keep those times to a minimum...More "sweet spots" when you are cruising,in all speeds....keep us posted!

Use the lower gear. The earlier engine thrives at higher rpm. You will be pleased with the newfound throttle response, and your mileage may even improve.
