There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. 50 mph 5th gear roll on 08 SM vs 09 SE

Nice weather here in south Georgia today, 74 degrees. A great day for a ride so we rode down to Bruesters for ice cream. On the way back I told my SO to do a 50 mph 5 gear roll on on my mark... standby "mark". Her 09 SE5 blew me away. So we did it a couple more times. Same thing blew me away.

Now my SM5 was running good... smooth as silk... no spitting, sputtering or hesitation. Only difference is mine is carrying an additional 60 pounds. The way her SE was coming on I find it difficult to believe it is just the extra pounds.

I need to find out where all that extra power she is getting is coming from... just can't continue to let this happen.

By the way best ice cream in the country... even borderline diabetics like me can eat it.

Are they both stock??

Both are stock

Both are running stock equipment. Tire pressures are 18 front 28 rear. Air filters are new, oil was changed about 1000 miles ago. Both use AmsOil Synthetic 10w-40 Motorcycle Oil. Tires are the same as received from factory. Both have belt tension set 220 to 230 using the gates tension guage. Ken krb1945

Are you talking about this meter?

Just wondering about the cost of this item. sonic_meter_507c

I've found over the years that bone stock, identical bikes can have very different fuel mileage, power, accelleration, etc.

I had a Honda Valkyrie that go better fuel mileage and had more power than any other version of the same bike that I rode with.

People virtually called me a liar when I told them what kind of fuel mileage I routinely got with that bike.

The guy I sold it to had already owned 3 Honda Valkyries before he bought mine. He gave me that eye when I told him how strong it ran and then squinted a bit more when I told him what mileage I got. I know he wrote it off to sales marketing bull.

But we stayed in touch for over a year and he never failed to tell me how right I was. And how he honestly though I was outright lying to him just to get him to buy it.

He rode with several others that owned the same motorcycle and he quit telling them the truth because none of them believed him either.

Just the luck of the draw. When all the parts are very close to specs it makes all the difference in the world.

On the other hand.... 60 lbs. makes a lot of difference! :roflblack:

Slow Spyder

Ken, I think you got the one cylinder model. Arthur---Mexico City

You worite: Now my SM5 was running good... I need to find out where all that extra power she is getting is coming from...

Your Wife's reactions are quicker than yours,;)
Hate to say it but sometimes age has something to
do with a slower reaction time.:roflblack:

This is an interesting thread. I do believe that weight is indeed a factor. I know cause I am not a very small person either!

But I have both models and I have in fact found that the se5 model tranny does have a good getaway characteristic. Now that I have tweeked 14 I have closed that gap but the SE5 is somewhat quick! :f_spider:

Are you saying you were both in 5th gear doing 50 mph when you both nailed it? if that's what you are saying, it would seem that you (with the SM5) would be at a disadvantage as being into to high a gear for such a low speed when you punch it. JMO.

Switch vehicles and try again. That's what makes the most sense. If it is the weight it will show that.
It may not totally switch the results because there may be other reasons as well that one is faster than the other in your experiment, but changing one variable is good science...

Out of curiosity, does the SE downshift when "punched" at that speed in 5th gear? :hun:
I don't have one, so I can't say with certainty, but it should not. It downshifts only when the rpm drops low enough. Nailing it in any gear will not reduce the rpm unless the Spyder bogs. There is no "kick-down" like with an automatic trans.
