300 km/hr motorcycle chase

but the scenery is boring... nothing like going flat out on a deserted highway in New Mexico or anywhere .. trying to cross the continental divide that turned into a dirt road, fording creeks on a sports bike

after reading this thread. I find a lot of finger pointing.. now tell me.. when you were younger, did not you break the laws..

I have passed in the off lane, many times . have been forced into that situation by dumkoffs in modern day conestogas .. trailering their motorcycles to their next point of profiling

I found the ride put up interesting.. it is nothing I haven't done when I was younger.. I think sometimes we forget and find fault and feel justified in our thoughts

Lighten up and enjoy the ride

When you're being "Young & Dumb"; it's easy to try and justify the kind of behavior that makes for "Page 1" accidents...
Sorry... immaturity is no excuse for endangering other people.

what a load of crapola

there is no justification to what these morons did.
young and stupid is a stupid selfish excuse that does not fly. PERIOD

:mad::mad::mad:

With all due respect, I disagree. If it was a closed road and they were the only ones on it, you'd be right. But they risked the lives of the other people on that highway. What if a car driver swerved into another lane because they suddenly saw in their peripheral vision something coming up fast in the left shoulder? As a driver, I expect others to at least obey the basic rules, or they endanger me.
You Are right!! :agree: They endangered many other lives !! Their carelessness could have resulted in an accident involving another bike or one of the many vehicles they passed, including buses. These are not trained professional riders, just people who have no common sense and no regard for thier safety or the safety of others!!

Something not brought up yet. Public perception. Those guys (?) passing like that would scare me. What if they decided "not to see" a motorcycle when they pull out of a parking lot. Or just bump one sitting in a parking lot.
Somebody in goverment decides to pass a law restricting motorcycles to 250cc and these guys just got that person a lot of votes.
Some wheels in the insurance business decides not insure "sport bikes". Oh that already happened once. A whole lot of them were just normal bikes, like the 500 cc Silver Wing Honda.
There is also a lot of problems with medical insurence not covering bike accident, even if the bike is not at fault. This is now.
Yes, I did some dumb things when I was young, but only on back roads or parking lots, where the only one that could hurt was me. (or my passenger).
Anybody else, ever ride "indian style" Get down on side of the bike (everything) on the foot pegs, so the cowboys could not kill you ? Harley KHK motorcycle
Oldmanzues

Yes, what they did was stupid - BUT...no one needs to meddle in their business. For the most part they risked only their own lives. That is NOT your business. Had they been in cars it would have been different but they were not. Enjoy the video from the safety of your home. The world would be a boring place without people who take chances even if they are stupid chances.
Sorry....but I have to disagree. They were risking the lives of every car driver they passed. 299kph is 186mph. A mile in less than 20 seconds. Have you ever seen what happens when 500 pounds of metal travelling at that sort of speed hits a car?

My qualifications to make this comment: Advanced motorcycle instructor in the 80s. Over 50 years of motorcycling some of which was done on bikes capable of 200mph.
It requires little skill to open the throttle on a straight road. It also takes an averagely competent rider around a quarter of a mile to come to a standstill from 180mph. and that's if they don't cook the brakes!

Sorry, doesn't fly. Yes, I did break some highway laws in my youth, including going a bit too fast. But I never pulled something like what is on this video, which not only is dangerous for the riders but also dangerous to anyone else around. If any of those riders had hit any of those cars people in the cars would have died. It was just...plain...stupid.

You want to go that fast? Go to a track day. Then you'll only kill yourself if you screw up.

Besides, people like that give a bad name to all the other bikers out there. People like that hurt ALL of us.

Do you think they have families that care about them? Do you think tax payers should pay for the clean up of their mess?

We had a crotch rocket accident on the Seward Highway last evening. The driver was taken to the hospital but will live.

Witnesses say he was not speeding, but for some reason went off the road and hit a rock that had come down from a cliff above. The motorcycle broke up into several pieces and the driver was ejected.

The area is a 55 mph safety zone so high speed was not the issue here. At the speeds the drivers were doing in the video--I am afraid they would have been cleaning up many small parts (both motorcycle and body). :yikes:

When they were pulling over onto the shoulder to pass the trucks and buses; what if a disabled vehicle happened to be parked there?

What if all day. There were none. Luck on the part of the riders? Possibly, or maybe the riders knew nothing was there. No doubt their eyesight and reaction times are better than most and that probably means just about everyone in our little group here at Spyderlovers. The riders showed very poor judgment but that does not mean they lacked skill and talent.

Let's face it; a properly trained Chimanzee could twist the loud grip and hang on... :yikes:
It's their lack of judgement; that had me concerned...

yes they have skill and talent, but the car driver that they startled by passing on the right may overreact and swerve. let them play on a track

Exciting to watch but very dangerous for themselves and potentially others as well. I don't know where they were but, surprisingly, the shoulder seemed very clean. Around here the chances of encountering a gator are far too great to get on the shoulder at that speed. Oh, for those not used to Texas slang, a gator is a big chunk of tire tread, usually thrown off a truck tire. Most of us thought we were bulletproof when we were young and many of us would have been guilty of doing the same thing if such machines had been available in the '50's. After all, we rode or drove whatever we had wide open most of the time. So, it's hard to be too critical when, given the chance, I and most of my friends would have done the same thing. I just hope they are as lucky as we were and survive the "bulletproof" stage and get to enter the "old enough to know better" stage.

Cotton

EXACTLY! Well said. So many here preaching as if they are pure as the wind driven snow whereas most have done stupid stuff, potentially deadly stuff, in their youth and those that haven't are probably plain vanilla people bordering on boring. Give me someone who paints their life in vivid colors - not in a number 2 pencil. I make no apologies. Even though these riders showed incredibly poor judgment I admire their skill.

Again I say "Right on!" Great post.

You are correct about the lack of judgment but wrong about the chimp. Most people including most of us here could not do what those riders did even if we were on a deserted track.

No reason to judge. We have all done dumb things that we thought were ok at the time. That was a pretty open road.
The burm stuff would make me think twice..especially as I get older. Also, those high rpm downsifts....it doesn't take much to lock up the rear wheel.
